  4. COMPONENTS Component 1: 9th Grade Honors Physical Science Pilot Program 1st Semester • Students with high scores on ITBS science test • Complete physical science requirement in • one semester • Problem-based, research, & product-oriented

  5. 2nd Semester • Teams of 3-5 student “experts” – computer, math, science, writing • Each team selects a topic for research which must include a • mathematical model which uses Mathematica, Stella, Excel, etc. • Each team must produce a research paper, display board, computer program/simulation, and an oral presentation using PowerPoint. • Each team must participate in the technology fair and AiS • competition.

  6. Component 2: Jr/Sr Anatomy & Physiology • Teams of 2-3 students • Modeling of Stella and Excel to student teams • Each team selects a topic for research which must include a • statistical model which uses Stella and/or Excel. 1st Semester 2nd Semester

  7. TIMELINE • Mid-January: teams formed; programs modeled • February – March: topics selected; research; completion • of topic • Mid-March: final draft paper, rough draft computer • program/simulation • April: display board, final draft of computer program/simulation, • oral presentation using PowerPoint, and competitions. • 2001-2002 School Year: Training of additional math and science • teachers
