  2. Brief Description Vets are commonly known as animal doctors. They wear lab coats, they use needles and scalpels, and they work in extreme places if the animal cannot move. They make us feel better by making our beloved pets feel better.

  3. Education/Training • 2-year program for technicians • 4-year program for technologists • Must be registered, licensed, or certified, depending on the state. • Vet Medical Assistant- 2-year Associate Degree and 4-year Bachelor Degree.

  4. Salary • 2010 Median Pay: $21,000$ per year, and $4.28$ per hour

  5. Attributes and Abilities • Compassion- Veterinary Technologists and Technicians must treat animals with kindness and must be sensitive • Manuel Dexterity- Dexterity is important with Veterinary Technicians and Technologists, they must handle animals, instruments, and laboratory equipment with care.

  6. Attributes and Abilities • Detail Oriented- Veterinary Technologists and Technicians must be careful to notice changes and record data correctly • Interpersonal Skills- Veterinary Technologists and Technicians spend a lot of time communicating with supervisors, owners, and other staff.

  8. Duties of a Vet • Observe the behavior and conditions of animals. • Provide nursing care or emergency first aid, rest, and recovery for the hurt. • Administer anesthesia to animals and monitor patients. • Take and develop x-rays.

  9. Duties Continued • Collect lab samples for testing(blood, urine, and tissue). • Perform lab tests (urinalysis and blood counts) • Prepare animals and instruments for surgery. • Administer medications, vaccines and treatments prescribed by vets. • Collect and record patient’s case stories.
