  3. Carbohydrates • Simple; just sugar ex. Refined sugars fruits milk etc. • Complex; starches ex. Grain products such as, pasta, rice, bread etc.

  4. Fats • Helps devolvement of children • Helps absorb vitamins • Energizes body etc. • 3 types • Saturated; in animal products ex. Butter, meats, milk also in coconut and palm oil etc. • Unsaturated; in plants and fish ex. Olive oil, peanut oil, albacore tuna salmon etc. • Trans; unhealthy, found in margarine, baked and fries goods.

  8. fiber • Provides energy • Helps the digestion • Cleans small and large intestines • Can reduce cancer and other diseases • Two types of fiber • Water soluble; dissolves in water, we can digest this, oat bran, legumes, nuts, bean, pectin and various fruits and veggies • Insoluble fiber; doesn’t dissolve in water we cant digest this, cereal, bran and vegetables

  9. Vitamins • Fat soluble: A,D,E,K • Stored in fat tissues & liver • Water soluble: B,C • Not kept long body • Not used comes out in urine • A: helps eyesight - Improves immune system • B: 1, 2, 6, 12, niacin, folic acid, biotin, and pantothenic acid. - Makes red blood cells

  12. Minerals • Helps body grow, develop, stay healthy • Builds strong bones • Sends nerve impulses • Some for hormones & heart beat • Macro (large) trance(small) • Not enough weak bones, immune system

  13. Macrominerals • Means large • Need more than trance minerals • 7 types: calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, potassium, sodium • Calcium is top • Strong bones, healthy teeth • Dairy, fish with bones, vegies

  14. TranceMinerals • Means little • Body needs less than macro • 8 types: Iron, manganese, copper, iodine, zinc, cobalt, fluoride, selenium • Comes from soil plants grow in • Fertilizers added to soil add minerals

  15. Water • Helps with digestion • Body has 50-70% • Live few days without • Soda has caffeine acts as diuretic • Not enough become sick • 8 glasses per day • Extra when exercising • Milk, soup, fish, chicken etc…
