  1. Child Lift Wheelchair Purpose The purpose of this project was to design a wheelchair capable of lifting a child from near floor level to a height of approximately 36” with little to no effort while still retaining the appearance of a standard wheelchair. Matthew Price Justin Henshaw Earle Mock Advisor: Dr. David Walrath Funding: Mechanical Eng. and Electrical & Computer Science Departments Lifting Actuator The lift is powered by a 30:1 Worm Gear Gearbox donated by Boston Gear. It is driven by a manual hand crank connected at the rear of the wheelchair. Lift Range of Motion Using this lifting method the seat can reach heights ranging from 16” to 36” • Design Specifications • Complies with American Disability Act (ADA) • Relatively Light Weight (60 lbs) • Capable of Lifting 160lbs • Resembles a Standard Wheelchair • Easy to Transport (i.e. folds down) • Easy to Clean • Safety Straps • Storage for Medical Equipment • Conclusion • Overall Weight = 100 bls • Capable of holding >160 lbs • Resembles a Standard Wheelchair • Transportable • Easy to Clean • Better Gearbox Required • Stability Issues with Scissor Lift • Existing Safety Issues (i.e. pinch points) • Cost Analysis • Material Cost = $1000 • Labor Cost = $11490 • Prototype Cost = $12490 • Production Analysis • Fixed Cost = $1391 per unit • Sale Price* = $2045 • * Assume 400 units per year with 150% mark-up
