  2. Objectives • The call: “ THEME [KBBE.2010.2.2-03] Identifying research needs on malnutrition in Africa – Mandatory Africa”

  3. Research needs • From the viewpoint of the African researcher in contrast with current practices • Identify the topics needed for research • Identify the constraints to do research • Identify what is needed for support

  4. Topics for research • Present needs AND • Future needs based on the challenges for the future= oil prices, climatic changes,…. To be agreed upon in the first meeting, with a call for authors

  5. Consensus on topics • Broad consultation of researchers • Regional workshops • Methodology for the workshops, need to find a balance between the views of stakeholders • Broad dissemination of results: make the workshop presentations available to a wide public.

  6. Stakeholder analysis • Broad, identify many categories • Prepare before the first meeting • Find a large support basis for the results • Can we set up a research foundation for research on malnutrition Africa towards the end?

  7. Develop a road map • Put the results in strategic paper • Disseminate and widely distribute this paper • Introduce this in a networks of political decision making: advisory board member M. Nago. • Actively inform decision makers on our initiative from the start • Make a plan to contact and inform organisations

  8. Dissemination • Inform of the initiative • Make the information available to a large forum • Use modern tools: website, i-platforms, virtual participation to the workshops

  9. Work packages • WP1: management • WP2:Mapping of current research activities • WP3:Stakeholder analysis • WP4:Scientific papers of environmental impact on nutrition • WP5:Regional stakeholder workshops to set the research agenda • WP6:Developing the roadmap • WP7:Dissemination

  10. Work packages content • Outlines have been fixed • Details remain open • Steering committee meetings must fix the details: build partnership • Need to develop protocols to submit for ethical clearance
