  5. 26% of high schools in the greater Cape Town have art education up to a matric level. 2489 of the 24 793 public ordinary schools have computer laboratories.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS • What practical and technical skills are considered necessary among institutional gatekeepers’ for students’ acceptance into these design courses • What is the media ecology among students, and specifically the ecology supporting visual media production? • Given these requirements and ecologies, what functionality should a mobile visual design app provide? …how does the understanding of ecologies feed into theories of cultural capital?
