Get out a brand new sheet of paper. Put your name, period, and date in the upper right hand corner. Entitle the paper “Chemistry Warm-Ups” Stand by for further instructions.

Lab Floor Plan • Draw a floor plan of the science classroom, to scale, based on real measurements you and your partners make. • Include the following things in your drawing: • * Lab tables * Fume hood * Eyewash station • * Whiteboard * Fire Extinguisher * Teacher table • * Exits * Door to storage room • * Fire alarms * Emergency shower • Make a rough draft. Then, make a professional-quality final draft, preferably on graph paper. The rough draft may be very rough, but the final draft must be a work of art and must be as accurate as possible with regard to exact positions and sizes. • XCR/Honors “A”: convert all main measurements into mm, cm, m, in. ft, and yd. (width of room, depth of room, length of tables, etc.)

  12. Intro Unit Screen Questions Answer the following with complete sentences. You do not need to copy the questions. 1. Write an original, make-believe story about a scientist who discovers a law of nature by using the scientific method. Try to involve as many stages and processes as possible. Be creative. 2. Tell me the story of how the metric system was invented, including what country, during what part of history, the reason for making the system, and what the units are based on. 3. Pretend you have to draw a floor plan of a 14 m wide x 21 m long room on a piece of 4 squares/inch graph paper. You want 1” margins around the map. What should the scale of the floor plan be? Show your reasoning. Use both math and drawings if you can.
