INTRODUCTION TO ISLE OF MAN IMMIGRATION
Isle of Man immigration: The Isle of Man is a dependency governing itself on its own. It is the dependency of the British Crown, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the Head of State. The dependency can use the services of the British Embassies and other diplomatic offices all over the world. One of the services given by the British Embassies is to work as agents for managing initial visa applications that are submitted for the Isle of Man. The UK, Isle of Man, the Republic of Ireland, and the Channel Islands form a common travel area, which is also called CTA. It means that a candidate who has entered the common travel area and been examined for immigration control (for instance, in the UK) doesn’t need to leave to get into any other part of the common travel area. Travel between the Isle of Man and the UK is an internal domestic journey, and there is no separate immigration or other control. However, certain people subject to the Immigration (Control of entry Through the Republic of Ireland) Order 2016 who enter the Isle of Man using the Republic of Ireland need leave to enter and must report to the Isle of Man Immigration Service when arrived on the island for visa issuance.
Isle of Man immigration rules: The rules of immigration are made by the Minister for the Cabinet Office and outline the practice expected to be followed in the administration of the Immigration Acts as extended to the Isle of Man for the regulation of the entry into and stay of people in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man Immigration Rules, while not identical to the United Kingdom Immigration Rules, is based on the UK Rules and very similar. However, they are not completely the same and there are some provisions within the UK rules that are not applicable here and some in the Isle of Man Immigration Rules that are not applicable in the UK. There are also, like in the UK, provisions within the Isle of Man Immigration Rules that apply only to Commonwealth nationals.
