  1. Mapping SISO and MIMO Channel Performance

  2. Comparing Different Channel Models • Three categories of channel models: • Category A: SISO channel models based on ITU channel models • Category B: MIMO channel models based on the ITU channel models with fixed spatial parameters. • Category C: MIMO Channel models based on the SCM channel model. • Questions: • How do we use the fixed spatial parameters in category B with the ITU models to generate the MIMO Link? (each individual SISO link should still exhibit the same power delay profile specified by the ITU models). • How do we compare a link level sim based on category B to another link level sim based on category C? In another way, two MIMO channels, first is generated based on cat. B and the other on cat. C. Do they have the same statistics in time/space? Do they exhibit the same average SNR and/or diversity gain?

  3. Effective Signal to Noise Ratio Concept • Let us consider a channel with a complex gain h, the receiver SNR is • Channel Capacity: • Consider now, N links, each with a channel gain hi, the total capacity is

  4. Effective Signal to Noise Ratio Concept • What would be the corresponding SISO link that will have the same total capacity
