  1. Plate Tectonics By: Alexander .T. Arnold

  2. Pangaea The Originator History Of Pangaea Alfred Wegener is the person who originally came up with the idea of Pangaea. He was Born November1st 1880. He acquired his PHD in Astronomy from the university of Berlin in 1904. He also created the use of balloons to track air circulation. He was later drafted into a war and discharged because of injury. He created his theory because of records of plant and animal fossils that were similar on other sides of the world from each other. At first his idea of a “super continent “was widely rejected and ridiculed. It was not until the 1950s that the idea was excepted. He died doing his work in the mountains. The idea of Pangaea was first set forward in 1912. Pangaea is the idea that all of the continents were connected together at one time. Supposedly Plate Tectonics shifted and the continents drifted apart presenting the crust we have as of today. Pangaea means All Earth. Coming from Greek words meaning all and earth. Later after the ideas were introduced Arthur Helms helped them to be recognized. During the Carbonfuceous period. The Earth was apparently one solid piece.

  3. Convergent Boundary • Convergent Boundaries are changes in the Earth that cause Volcano's and Earthquakes to form. Volcano’s can be very destructive by spurting hot lava into the air. Earthquakes are were plates in the cores press against each other. San Andros is a example of a Convergent boundary. In that example a earthquake happened and a volcano close to that area want off. San Andros lies near the San Andros Fault.

  4. Divergent Boundary • A Divergent Boundary is were two tectonic plates that move away from each other. This is what forms the end of continents and Ocean Basins. Divergent Boundaries can form Volcanic islands. The Mid Atlantic Ridge is a example of a Divergent Boundary. Atlantic Plate was involved.

  5. Transform Boundary • A Transform Boundary is were two plates slide against each other. This usually causes a large amount of Earthquakes. A Example of a Transform Boundary is the Alpine fault in New Zealand. New Zealand is in the North American Plate of the earth.

  6. Facts • Did you know that North America is on the North American plate?? • Also did you Know that the Juan de fuca plate borders the United states. • Are we in any danger from plate tectonics?? you may ask. Well yes very much so. Earthquakes happen all the time and plates are moving at least a little every year. • The United States is threatened directly from MT.Ranier. Also the geysers and smaller volcanoes of Yellowstone. • I anticipate that Mnt.Ranier or Yellowstone will cause serious problems. Also the volcano in Hawaii will probably go off relatively soon.

  7. So… do you think something will happen in the near future having to do with plate tectonics?? Well I do but I hope that I am wrong. Because if something hazardous does happen I am afraid that it will cause DEVESTATING problems and injuries. But we cant stop or help if something does happen. The world is a changing place and it is changing every day. Landslides Trenches and mudslides are all things that could become hazardous to us in the future. But more then often!!. THE FUTURE!!
