Students will understand that: • Young adult literature can help teens in the process of self-discover and connection making to enrich their lives and help them become better citizens. • Students can deepen their understanding of literary and non-literary work by relating to its contemporary context. • An effective story engages the reader by using details and setting up questions. • Successful writers rely on the writing process to organize, edit, and revise their work to create their final product. • Authors often provide insight about human experiences through fictional and nonfictional work.
