  4. Chenab Bridge at Akhnoor, J&K Largest cantilever span in India Award: ‘Outstanding Concrete Structure for 2008’ by Indian Concrete Institute. • Largest cantilever spans in India. • Fastest construction cycle of 6 days for cast-in-situ segments. • PSC box depth: 9.75m at the pier; 3.4m at the centre. Span depth ratio for mid span– 16.4 at root • and 47 at mid span. • Footpath: 1.5m on either side. • Concrete: M-50 • HYSD bars: Fe 500. • Prestressing Cables: 62 Nos; each 19 Strands, 15.2mm dia. • Straight Tendon Configuration: Simplicity in design and construction; ~10% saving of weight of prestressing cables. • Stability Cables to prevent uplift at abutment.: 4 Nos., 19 T 15 Bridge over river Chenab at Akhnoor in J&K has been necessitated as existing facility is single lane and the bridge is in distress condition. A scheme of 60m+160m+60m was adopted consisting of non prismatic continuous prestressed concrete box girder erected by free cantilevering on hollow piers and abutments. The superstructure is constructed progressively from piers. The PSC box depth varies from 9.75m at root to 3.4m at the centre of span 2. The weight of each segment has been restricted to 135 T. A construction cycle of 10days was followed initially but it has been reduced to 6 days. Straight tendon configuration was adopted and cables were anchored at junction of web and deck/ soffit slab. Stability Cables have been used to anchor the superstructure to abutment during construction. 4 Nos. STU’s have been used for sharing the seismic forces among piers. Aesthetics: Bridge design criteria that preserves the existing landscapes and complement, and even enhances the settings has been given due weightage. Various components of the bridge are designed to work together and complement each other visually. It is a properly proportioned bridge with aesthetics intrinsic in it and aesthetics has been integral to the design. Consumption of materials has been minimized and it adds to slenderness of the structure as a medium of artistic expression. The simplicity in form, Salient Features: slenderness of the deck (span depth ratio for the mid span) and continuity of the lines makes the structure aesthetically pleasing. • Non prismatic continuous prestressed concrete box girder erected by free cantilevering on hollow piers and abutments. The problems faced in the previous attempts were adopted by this design.

  8. Dawki Bridge, Meghalaya Permanent bridge over river Umngot at km 161 of NH-40 in Meghalaya Length : 165m Span Arrangement : 20+125+20 m Client : MoSRT&H Project Cost : 16.50 crores Superstructure : Steel Arch Composite Deck proposed by segmental method of Construction Substructure & foundation : Raft Foundation Services Provided : DPR to include Detailed Design & Drawings & Cost Estimate Project Status : DPR submitted to MoSRT&H 3D Model The bridge at Dawki which is last in Indian settlement crossing over to Bangladesh on way to Sylhet. The Umngot river is contained in gorge section almost 30 m deep and it abruptly fans out on plains of Bangladesh just D/S of the site. The existing Dawki bridge across river Umnghot (Bridge No. 51/3) on NH 40 in km 161 is a single lane suspension bridge with RCC deck slab. The repair and rehabilitation of the existing bridge is completed recently and now traffic is plying in a restricted manner up a load capacity of 12 R. It is proposed now to construct a bridge over the river of Umnghot just near to Indo -Bangladesh international border. Keeping the above in view it is contemplated to go for an innovative type of bridge consisting of steel arch with Steel Concrete Composite type deck of single span of 125 m and curved approaches of RCC voided slab. The arch is proposed to be erected by cable wires used as front & back stays. The proposal consists of a semi through arch bridge. The arch consists of I-Section with Aluminium Composite Panel / annodisedAluminiumfacia. The deck consists of steel – concrete composite. The deck is connected to the arch by replaceable hangers of high strength stainless steel bars. The approach span is 2@20m continuous curved structure.

  9. Major Bridge at Tharia over River Wahrew under NLCPR, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya Length : 169.350m Span Arrangement : 1@150m (Arch) Client : PWD Meghalaya Services Provided : DPR to include Detailed Design & Drawings & Cost Estimate Superstructure : Steel Girder, Concrete Deck Foundation : Open Foundation Project Status : DPR submitted to the client 3D Model The bridge is located over river Wahrew at Tharia on Bholaganj – Nongjri road in sate of Meghalaya. The site required a state-or-the-art bridge for connecting two hill faces for a scenic location. The site is in remote area where working season is also limited to five-six months in a year. The detailed project report has been framed for a Trussed Arch Bridge of 150 m span. The depth varies from 4 m at the center to 6 m at springing location. The deck is designed as suspended from the arch by means of High Tensile Steel Hanger (E350) connected to a grid of longitudinal and cross beams. The structure is proposed to be erected by segmental method, wherein different parts are fabricated in the workshop and erected at site by means of a washing line and erecting temporary platform. The structure is chosen such that it complements the existing landscape. Aesthetics has been intrinsic in the design in which simple form & slander structure has been adopted to provide aesthetically pleasing design.
