In cases where substances are to be administered intravenously, medical assistance should be on hand to deal with any unexpected reactions. • Even in cases where a placebo is being used with no active ingredients, participants could experience allergic reactions, so medical support may be necessary • Check with participants whether they have any known allergies before starting the research. • The use of certain ingredients may not be acceptable for some participants due to their moral or spiritual beliefs – for example gelatine or other animal products would be unsuitable for vegetarians or people of certain religions.
