Généralités/ General aspect • Superficie: 1 267 000 km2; • Population estimée en 2012 à 16 274 738 hts • Taux d’accroissement de la population 3,3%; • Pays enclavé, le port le plus proche, celui de Cotonou au Bénin, se trouve à plus de 700 km de ses frontières; • Climat majoritairement aride, 89% du territoire reçoit moins de 350 mm de pluie par an; • Area : 1,267,000 Km2 • .Estimated population in 2012: 16,274,738 • Population growth rate: 3.3% • Land locked country, the nearest port that of Cotonou is 700 km far from its borders; • Climate mainly dry, 89% of the area receives less than 350 mm of rainfall a year

Généralités/ General aspect • Ressources en eau: 24 à 30 milliards de m3 d’eau drainés annuellement; 2.5 milliards de m3 d’écoulements souterrains renouvelables et environ 2000 milliards de m3 d’eau souterraine non renouvelables; • Prédominance du secteur primaire dans l’économie nationale (45.2% du PIB en 2010). • Water resources: 24 to 30 billions m3 of water are drained each year: 2.5 billions of renewable under groundwater and around 2,000 billions of non renewable underground water • Economy dominated by the primary sector (45.2% of the GDP in 2010

Présentation de l’Agriculture/ Presentation of Agriculture Caractéristique Générales • Superficie cultivable: 16 millions d’ha dont 8 millions exploités; • Potentiel irrigable: 270 000 ha dont 100 000 ha aménagés; General Characteristics • Arable land: 16 millions ha out of which 8 millions are cultivated; • Irrigation potentiel: 270,000 only 100,000 ha of irrigation schemes;

Filières porteuses et potentiel d’investissement/Crops and potentials for investments OIGNON • Production • Zones de production: partout au Niger avec des Concentration à Tahoua, Agadez, Tillabéry et Zinder, • Environ 350.000 tonnes par an, • 18.500 ha en moyenne par an, • Variétés disponibles: Violet de Galmi , Blanc de Soumarana, Blanc de Galmi. • Commercialisation • 280.000 Tonnes soit 80% de la production; • Débouchés: Côte d’Ivoire (39% des exportations), Ghana (26%), Nigéria (25%), Bénin, Togo et Burkina Faso. • Un circuit de réexportation de l’oignon nigérien se développe vers les pays européens via la Côte d’Ivoire. Onion • Production • Production areas : All over the country but the production is more concentrated in Tahoua, Agadez, Tillaberi and Zinder regions, • Around 250,000 Metric tons per year, • Around 18.500 ha cultivated per year, • Available varieties: Violet de Galmi ; Blanc de Soumarana; Blanc de Galmi. • Marketing • 280,000 Metric Tons i.e 80% of the total production; • Market outlets: Ivory Coast (39% of volume of exportation), Ghana (26%), Nigeria (25%), Benin, Togo and Burkina Faso. • A network for the re-exportation of Niger onion toward European countries through Ivory Coast is in expansion.

OIGNON • Potentiel de développement • Conditions agro climatiques favorables; • Possibilité d'extension des superficies jusque là exploitées; • Existence de variétés performantes reconnues sur le plan international. • Contraintes • Un système de production de semences peu performant, • Le circuit de commercialisation dominé par les intermédiaires, peu profitable aux producteurs; • Les techniques de conservation pas assez performantes; • Domaines d’investissement prioritaires • Transformation; • Exportation vers marchés traditionnels, vers l'Europe, l’Amérique et l’Asie; • Stockage.

Filières porteuses et potentiel d’investissement/Crops and potentials for investments COWPEA • Production • 780,000 to 1,800,000 Metric Tons per year • 4 to 5.5 millions of hectares • Production is undergone all over the country • Marketing • Almost all the production is meant for export. • Market outlets: Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana • Average exportable surplus for the last five years: 1.201.464 Metric Tons. • Potentials to be developped • Possibility to produce under rainfed cultivation and under irrigation, • Favourables pedo-climatic conditions ; • High yieding varieties, • Existence of market outlets ; • Low parasitic pressure under irrigation NIEBE • Production •  780.000 à 1.800.000 tonnes par an; • 4 à 5,5 millions d’ha; • Production sur l'ensemble du pays. •  Commercialisation • L’essentiel de la production est destiné à l’exportation; • Débouchés: Nigéria, Bénin, Togo, Ghana; • Moyenne des surplus exportables sur les cinq dernières années: 1.201.464 T. •  Potentiel de développement • Possibilité de produire en pluvial et irrigué ; • Conditions pédoclimatiques favorables ; • Variétés à haut potentiel de rendement ; • Existence de débouchés ; • Peu de parasitisme en irrigué.

Filières porteuses et potentiel d’investissement/Crops and potentials for investments SWEET PEA • Production • Production areas: Maradi and Tillabéri, • Area under production : 8,278 ha, • Annual production: 26,551 Metric tons • Predominantly whitish varieties with large rhizomes. • Marketing • 21,241 Metric tons exported, • Market outlets: Spain, Swiss, Nigeria with re-exportation towards south Africa and Europe • Locally processed for domestic consumption. SOUCHET • Production •  Zones de Production: Maradi et Tillabéry; • Superficie : 8.278 ha; • Production annuelle : 26.551 Tonnes • Variétés blanches à gros rhizomes plus prédominantes. • Commercialisation • 21.241 Tonnes exportées; • Débouchés: Espagne, suisse, Nigéria avec réexportation vers l'Afrique du sud et l'Europe; • Transformation artisanale pour le marché local en développement.

Filières porteuses et potentiel d’investissement/Crops and potentials for investments SESAME • Production • Areas of production: Zinder, Maradi, Tillabéry, Dosso and Tahoua; • Average production 57,315 Metric Tons with a peak of 85,694 Metric Tons in 2010; • Average area: 130,747 ha with a peak of 181,735 ha in 2011. • Marketing • 77,000 Metric Tons marketed in 2010; • Market outlets: Nigeria, Burkina, Togo. With re-exportation towards Maghreb, Europe and Middle East. SESAME • Production • Zones de production: Zinder, Maradi, Tillabéry, Dosso et Tahoua; • Moyenne de production 57.315 Tonnes avec un pic de 85.694 T en 2010; • Superficie moyenne: 130.747 ha avec un pic à 181.735 ha en 2011. • Commercialisation • 77.000 Tonnes en 2010; • Débouchés: Nigéria, Burkina, Togo. Avec réexportation vers le Maghreb, l'Europe et le Moyen Orient.
