  2. What are we distinguishing today? Today “we are distinguishing _____________________.”

  3. What are Multiple Meaning Words? • Multiple Meaning words are words that have more than one meaning. • Use context clues to figure out the appropriate meaning in a sentence.

  4. What is a multiple meaning word? • Many words have more than one meaning. • The meaning of the word depends upon how it is used in the sentence.

  5. Let’s look at an example… Here are three different meanings of the word track: • a mark left by someone or something • a path • a set of rails that trains move on

  6. Multiple Meaning Words are words that have several meanings. We use CONTEXT CLUES to help us figure out which meaning is correct.

  7. Be careful, or you will trip! We planned our trip together. I trip over things very often. 1. She took a trip to Florida. Step 1: Read the underlined word. Step 2: Read the sentence. Step 3: Look at clues in the sentence to figure out the meaning of the underlined word. Step 4: Re-read the sentence to make sure your meaning makes sense. The correct answer is B.

  8. The feather was very light. She wore light colors because it was going to be a hot day. There is only one light in the living room. 2. I turned on the light so I could see better.   35. Present Tylah • Right now is another word for present. • Tylah shared with her classmates that another meaning for present is right now.

  36. Mean Tyler • Some people are mean of what they say. • When children say mean things to each other they can be hurtful. • When Daquan says mean things to Tyler, it hurts her feelings and makes her cry.
