  3. Until its implementation by Miami-Dade Transit, Long Range RFID technology had never been used in a Paratransit environment, anywhere in North America. Miami-Dade Transit is in essence, an Industry leader in this regard. The implementation of the project involved the integration of a Mobile Data Terminal with a RFID receiver\reader. The Mobile Data Terminal also provided GPS capability as well as Cellular Data connectivity to a Gateway Server used to collect customer user information and store that information in a connected database. 3 PROJECT BACKGROUND

  4. 4 NEW TECHNOLOGY • Mobile Data Terminal • Provides on-board technology that sends and receives data such as passengers’ pick-up and drop-off times, locations, and fare amount. • Automated Vehicle Locator • Uses Global Positioning System that provides vehicle location for tracking purposes. • Monitors schedule adherence for investigations and no-show verification.

  5. 5 NEW TECHNOLOGY & CARD TYPES • Automatically authenticates STS clients boarding and alighting STS vehicles • Provides improved accountability • Testing involved the use of several styles of RFID cards and tags that were tested under identical conditions. • The tags and cards were also tested with different types of obstructions that were likely to be encountered in an actual environment.

  6. STS transit rider cards are printed and programmed in-house 6 MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT STS CARD

  7. All vehicles have antennas mounted for sending and receiving communication for the mobile data terminals and from passengers boarding the vehicle. 7 ON BOARD ANTENNA & RFID READER
