  4. Preparing to Leave Sinai • God has Moses take a census (Num 1: 1-3) • Men 20 or older - serve in the army • Organized by tribe

  5. Israel Rebels • Rejection of the Gifts of God • They reject the manna and the obedience to the Word of God • Aaron and Miriam protest the authority of Moses • They are jealous

  6. Israel Rebels • 12 Spies are Sent to Canaan (Num 13: 21-33) (#25 on timeline) • They focus on the size of the cities and the enemies they will have to fight - BAD • Allow fear and false promises to block God • 2 of the 12 trust God: Joshua and Caleb – only 2 of their generation to enter Promised Land

  7. Israel Rebels • Nature of Israel’s Sin • Lack of faith in God (Num 14: 1-10, 27-35) • God’s punishment - 40 years to wander in desert • As a result, Israel learns: • Obedience and Reliance • This allows them to flourish when they enter Canaan
