  1. Now A Compostable Bag Without Polythene “God Made The Earth & Gave It To You , To Hold it In Trust For Your Children”

  2. From Mervyn Dias MBA ( Leicester ) Chairman Plastic Pakaging Pte Ltd Sri Lanka.

  3. Plastic Pakaging Pte Ltd A 100% Sri Lankan Company Protecting The Environment Who Introduced Oxo-Biodegradable Bags in 2003 Now Introduces 100% Compostable & Biodegradable Bags

  4. Important NoticeNo Minimum 20 microns thickness Rule For Polythene Bags For 100% Compostable & Biodegradable Bag It is important to note that this bag will not come under the minimum 20 micron thickness rule for polythene bags As there is NO POLYTHENE in this bag.

  5. Why Is The Biodegradable & Compostable Bag Important ? Approximatly more than 230 million tons of garbage is generated annually worldwide & this has created a huge problem of disposal as much of this is not compostable and biodegradable . Garbage contains non biodegradable material such as plastic bags , pet bottles , cans , glass bottles etc. Much of this cannot be collected for recycling. It cannot also be disposed in land filling as it will pollute the soil. Therefore the option of Biodegradable & Compostable Products gives the opportunity to choose a biodegradable solution to protect the environment.

  6. What Is Composting ? Composting refers to a solid waste management technique which uses natural processes to convert organic materials to humus through the action of micro-organisms. In effect it is natures’ way of recycling.

  7. What Is Composting …. ? A pile of organic waste is attractive to micro organisms that are normally present in the environment. If the water content is sufficiently high, the micro organisms start to consume the nutritional substances in the waste. This means, to break down the organic molecules, produce carbon dioxide, water and heat (biodegradation). At the end of the process, the initial waste is transformed into a substance called compost . In composting plants, this process is controlled and optimised in order to achieve a high conversion speed, control of the effluent, control of the quality of the final compost, etc.

  8. What Happens To A Compostable Bag ? • These bags biodegrade , will undergo biological decomposition in a compost site, such that when the bag breaks down it is not visually distinguishable and breaks down to carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds, and biomass, at a rate consistent with known compostable materials. • Leaves no toxic residue .

  9. Where Will these Biodegrade ? These will biodegrade in any environment which contains bacteria, whether a compost heap, the soil or the sea.

  10. Criteria for a Product to be Considered Compostable& Biodegradable. It has to- • Biodegrade –Break down into carbon dioxide , water , biomass • Disintegrate - the material is indistinguishable in the compost, that is it is not visible . • Eco-toxicity - the biodegradation does not produce any toxic material and the compost can support plant growth.

  11. What Are Compostable Bags ? These are bags which break down in a composting environment by natural means, back into simple elements, carbon dioxide, water , biomass. The Bags would get composted in Home Composting units as well but will take longer.

  12. Are There Compostable & Biodegradable Products Other Than Bags? Yes . There are drinking cups , Youghut cups , spoons & many other products, that would normally be made out of plastics. Garden Applications Commercial Applications

  13. How Long Will This bag Take For Composting? • Compostable products/ Bags should comply with the European standards EN 13432 introduced in 2000. American Standard ASTM6400.BPI . • This means that 90% of the product has to be composted within a 12 week period and that the resulting humus created during the composting process is of good quality. • Maximum Time period allowed is 180 days for the complete process.

  14. What Is the Material Used For Bag ? Nature-Tec biodegradable resin is used to manufacture Nature Plus compostable bags without polythene.

  15. Certification • Yes .Certified by BPI . Biodegradable Products Institute ,USA. Awards their compostable logo for biodegradable & Compostable products. • It is awarded only if the product conforms to International Standards ASTM 6400 , EN 13432 .

  16. Look For The Compostable LogoThis is the logo awarded for approved products by BPI & this is given after carrying out several lab tests by independent bodies .Always look for the logo to assure the products you buy are truly biodegradable and compostable.

  17. It Starts In The Kitchen & Ends In The Garden • Eliminates Odours — through evaporation, avoiding fermentation . • Naturally drives off moisture in the food waste. Our product reduces weight of contents by up to 30% within 5 days. More than 40% within 9 days. Once the bag is full just throw it to the home compost bin. • Eliminates wetness normally found inside ordinary Kitchen Non degradable waste collection bags.

  18. Compostable & Biodegradable BagFor Kitchen Waste Ideal Bag For Kitchen Waste & Save The Environment

  19. Wt Reduction Proof Of Nature Plus Bags

  20. Facts AboutBag • NaturePlus is biodegradable and compostable and will be completely composted within a short period within 180 days depending on the composting method. • NaturePlus is 100% biodegradable and compostable & carries the compostable logo. • Biodegradable and compostable films can be produced in thicknesses from 10 to 120 microns.  • When NaturePlus bag is used the weight of organic waste is reduced by up to 35% in about 7 days keeping the waste without odours and much more hygienic. • NaturePLus bag has all the good qualities of a usual non degradable plastic bag.

  21. More Facts AboutBag…. • Bags Can be printed as other bags. • Bags can be used several times as any other bag. • Bags can be used to carry frozen food & in rainy days . • Bags can be used as shopping bags. • Bags can be used to collect waste in the kitchen & compost it.

  22. What About Home Composting In Sri Lanka ? • Home Composting should be encouraged in Sri Lanka. • Why not start Now ? If implemented Zero waste from homes can be achieved in time to come. Kitchen waste to be composted , non degradable items such as bottles , cans , paper , plastic bags to be separated & handed over for recycling . • This would help Sri Lanka to reduce the environment pollution.
