  1. Recyclingsaves energy and conserves the environment.

  2. Cans and glass are 100% recyclable

  3. Recycling steel and tin cans saves 74 %of the energyused to make them. 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours 1 recycled aluminumcan (like Red Bull) would save enough energy to run a 100 watt light bulb for 20 hours, a computer for 3 hours, and a TV for 2 hours.

  4. Metal is separated into 2 groups: ALUMINIUM STEEL / TIN Use a magnet to test which metal your waste is Does not stick Sticks

  5. The filled tins are then taken to shops and stacked on the shelves People choose and buy the product they wish to use Tins & Cans are transported to food factories to be filled with food or drink CAN RECYCLING The empty cans are collected for recycling The cans are melted in a furnace and made into new cans Cans are collected in lorries and dumped in huge heaps at the recycling factory Magnets separate steel cans from aluminium cans. They are compacted and taken to a steel factory

  6. A steel mill using recycled scrap reduces water pollution, air pollution, and mining waste by about 70 percent.

  7. Do you know? Americans use 100Americans throw away enough aluminium every month to rebuild their entire commercial air fleet. • Americans throw out enough iron and steel to continuously supply all the car manufacturers in the entire nation.

  8. South Africans and Recycling The people of South Africa produce 540 million tons of waste a year About 95% of all South Africa’s waste is disposed of in landfill sites • On average, 16% of the money you spend on a product pays for the packaging, which ultimately ends up as rubbish. Did you know? An aluminium can that is thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now

  9. The unreleased energy contained in the average dustbin each year could power a television for 5,000 hours. SO…. RECYCLE!

  10. Collect cans now! On 21st June there is another collection. Can we beat our record of 14 000 cans?

  11. Bring your cans on 21 June. 40 cans each = 14 400
