  1. Secondary Research on eBooks LativiaAbduljawad

  2. Ebooksvs. Traditional books Around 44% of people go back to their homes to read books rather than watch tv. – either using ebooks or traditional books. More people prefer to read on their digital device, hence sales have been decreasing for the purchase of traditional books. In the last 2 months, the world’s largest online book seller has sold 105 electronic books for every 100 printed books. Main reason for this is the Kindle reader as readers are given the opportunity to carry their personal library everywhere they go.

  3. The advantages of Ebooks • Easy to carry around • Takes up less space • Could be less costly • Various features • Average price: $13.99 • Production lost: $0.70 • Sight • Touch • Risk of damage is high

  4. The disadvantages of ebooks • You must recharge an e-reader  • Some screens are not easily readable in sunlight  • They can cause eye-strain  • All digital data has a shelf-life  • Book piracy: easy to copy and distribute an e-book and the author receives no pay

  5. Ebooks features The various features that eBooks are usually known for are: • Highlighting • Synchronizing • Bookmarking • font flexibility making reading easier

  6. Traditional books • The touch • The smell • Flipping through the book • Human dimension of the physicality of the book • Old fashioned • Peaceful • The pleasure • Average price: $26.00 • Production lost: $4.50 • Risk of damage is low

  7. Interpreting results We found that people from the age 14-19 are more likely to prefer reading the traditional way rather than on a digital device. Most people have a device to read on, however, they enjoy reading traditionally because of the feel of the book and the ease of reading as it reduces the risks of eye strains.

  8. According to the results of the survey, 33% believes that there are no issues related to eBook devices. However, some people agree with the health issues that may arise. In addition, 14% say that cost is an issue for eBooks and that supports the secondary research as a device needs to be bought or a software such a e-reader.
