Le Monde Interactif, headquartered in Paris and founded in 1998, is a joint venture between Le Monde Group and Lagardère Group. As one of the pioneers in electronic news distribution, it has evolved to provide continuously updated news through its online platform, LeMonde.fr. With a team of 50, the platform emphasizes interactive and multimedia services aimed at enhancing reader experiences. The project seeks to explore new e-news processes and establish effective content distribution infrastructures, while addressing user mobility and engagement.

Partner objectives & contributions • Expected outcome from the project for LeMonde.fr: • gain early experience with novel e-news processes and distribution, • experiment novel interactive services for newspaper readers, • stay at the forefront of newspaper publishing technologies. • Contributions: • WP2: Participate in requirements assessment, based on previous experience with electronic news publishing • WP4: Participate in DigiNews architecture specification, especially with regard to: • integration with existing e-news content management systems; • realisation of extended services like user interactivity management, personalisation, context-awareness handling, billing and payment, etc. • WP5: In cooperation with the other partners, implement a demonstrator for end-to-end e-news management and distribution;evaluate the usability of this demonstrator platform
Main challenges & identified cooperation • Challenges: • Make the resource-constrained e-news terminals sufficiently attractive for the user. • Create the appropriate content distribution infrastructure for providing the user with up-to-date information at the time of connection. • Take optimal advantage of user mobility. • Potential for cooperation with BBC, Concentra, FIRST, ON-X, PDSL, SYLLEM, TU, Vossloh • Maybe other partnerships
Other important information • Funding from French PA yet to be approved • Initial decision to be announced on 27th February 2004, formal approval by May 2004
