  4. Required Courses • English • English • Pre-AP English (agreement required) • Math • Math • Pre Math 7 (Compacted) (agreement required) *Must take Compacted Science • Science • Science • Pre-AP Science (Compacted) (agreement required) *Must take Compacted Math • Texas History • Texas History • Pre-AP Texas History (agreement required) • Physical Education – must pass to play

  5. Pre-AP Classes • Students and parents will sign required agreement on the back of the student choice form before being placed into a Pre AP class. • If you do not have a signed agreement on the day of schedule input (12th, 13th, and 14thof February) you will not be able to sign up for PAP courses.

  6. All 7th graders will take a physical education class • Boys athletics (football only) • Girls athletics (volleyball and basketball) • Drill team – Both try out, sign up course • Cheer Team – no try out, sign up course • Boys gymnastics – try out required • Girls gymnastics – try out required • PE I • If taking any course other than PE - student must have a physical on file each year. Local doctors plan a FREE physical one evening in late April or early May. Date is yet to be determined and will be posted on the RISD Athletics site when determined.

  7. Boys Athletics • Sign up for Football only • Students who do not want to participate in football will have an opportunity to try-out for basketball before the season starts (schedules will be changed into athletics during the year) • Tennis, Track, Cross Country and Soccer are before or after school

  8. Girls Athletics • Volleyball • Basketball • Tennis, Track, Cross country and Soccer Soccer are before or after school Girls will tryout for each sport they are interested in or will participate in off season

  9. Cheer Team • Dance, jump, stunt • Cheer at football and basketball games • Cost is about $390 for uniform and $30 for summer camp

  10. Drill Team • Promotes school pride • Perform at home football and select basketball games • Perform at pep rallies • Perfect dancing • May require after school practices • Uniform and camp costs around $450 • More information to come about parent meeting, fittings & summer camp

  11. Gymnastics • Main Goal – prepare for High School Gymnastics • Classes for both beginner and advanced levels • Tryouts to determine skill level • Students will participate in meets throughout the school year • May require before or after school practice • There is a fee for gymnastics (practice and performance clothing)

  12. Art I or II • Everyone is eligible (Art I) • Inventive and imaginative expression • Art appreciation • Art History • of the year) • Creative • Fun • Enter in contests throughout the year • Art supplies required (around $25 due at the beginning)

  13. Be a part of the CMS Band • Students currently in band should stick with band • Never been in band = sign-up (Band Director will contact you in May to help you select an instrument) • Be a part of building a great musical tradition at CMS • Performances throughout the year • Social activities= football games, pep rallies, parades, concerts and competitions(individual and group) • Honors, Jazz, Mustang and Symphonic band sections • Requirements: instrumentand practice daily

  14. Journalism/ Newspaper • Journalism -is an introduction to the role of mass media in today’s society. Emphasis will focus on teaching the fundamentals of news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, and headline writing. Students learn the mechanics of the print media and will use the knowledge in the production of quarterly campus newspapers. Basic photography skills will also be introduced.

  15. Team work, Join with your friends, Field trips, Social events, Cool music, Specialize in an instrument, Contests and trophies Orchestra

  16. Theater Arts I, II & III • Everyone’s eligible • Learn basic acting techniques, improvisation, pantomime, dual-acting, short plays, puppetry and theater games • Active participation required • Campus performances • Set designing, as well!

  17. Choir! • Boys varsity, Girls Varsity, Beginner • Audition for both varsity choirs • Compete at UIL competitions • Field Trips!!!

  18. AVID! College prep course Scholarships for college Helps with organization Must take at least 1 PAP Course You must apply and be interviewed District data pull decides who is invited

  19. College and Career Readiness Teen Leadership College and Career Readiness – Basic Keyboarding skills, Group Projects, Explore college and career options! Teen Leadership – Groups projects, Community Service, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

  20. Aerospace/Robotics Create and be hands on! Robotics works on coding and Vex Robots Aerospace works in teams to problem solve

  21. Registration Forms due back to your campus counselor or homeroom teacher by February 8th. Pre AP agreement must be signed before student will be placed into a PRE AP course.
