  2. What is Assistive Technology? • Any device or service that helps a student with a disability to meet his or her IEP goals & to participate in the general education setting to the greatest possible extent.

  3. Assistive Technology in Regard to the Law

  4. The Technology-Related Assistance Act for Individuals with Disabilities • Passed in 1998 provides funding for statewide systems and services to provide assistive technology devices and services to individuals

  5. Reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act: • Mandates that every individualized education program team consider assistive technology when the educational program of an individual with a disability

  6. Hearing Impaired • Amplified Phone: are specifically designed for people with hearing loss, allowing users to turn up the volume as necessary to hear speech clearly

  7. Seeing Impaired • It offers a new way for both sighted and blind, to communicate, teach and learn braille together.

  8. Learning Disabled • This Go Talk 20+ provides a way for students to expand their education opportunities. • It is light weight and portable & allows communicators to expand their vocabulary without being intrusive

  9. Physically Disabled • Access utility: is a software program that modifies a standard keyboard to simplify operation of the keyboard, replace the mouse, substitute visual cues for sound signals, or add sound cues to keystrokes.
