  1. System Integration & Shutdown Planning Integration Management process Shutdown Planning

  2. System Integration & Shutdown Planning Integration Management process Integration Management Team Established core team to ensure systems wide communication Review and approve change requests to CF from technical groups Review IFC drawings for technical requirements and compatibility Review installation plans and provide input on integration activities Document change requests that are cross divisional (affecting more than one system)

  3. Integration Management Team APD Conventional Facilities (Jess Albino) IMT Organization Integration Area managers are points of contact for changes and schedules Changes are documented in a Design Change Request (DCR) form Signatures from Integration Area Managers and System Managers assures acknowledgement and communication across systems Project Office final approval – assures funding path is known and approved DCR to CF provides clear direction that action on change is approved and can begin CCB to be submitted by group performing work

  4. Integration Management Team • IMT Topics and Issues • Service Building Power: IMT-DCR-1006-01 • Change IFC drawings to include 480VAC for power supply racks in Service Buildings. Currently in signoff. • Items under review • Mirror support pad relocation in FEE • Review PPS doors for interlock compatibility • BTH West utilities and service building requirements • Concrete floor stability wrt support structure anchor installations • Beam dump final design; input from technical groups

  5. Integration Management Team • Systems Integration • IMT will assist in overall integration of activities • Involved in installation scheduling • Knowledgeable of CF schedule and Technical components • Important to understand relationships between systems to avoid “items” falling through the cracks • Important to have communication between systems to ensure “items” have responsible owners and get scheduled • Key individuals as points of contact; heavily involved in their areas of responsibility

  6. System Integration & Shutdown Planning Shutdown Planning Scheduling in a SLAC Downtime

  7. Injector/Linac Downtime Planning Wall Region SAB/Insertion L1 X-Band/BC1 Gun/GTLLOA & BHeater RegionWall Region Linac Tunnel

  8. LCLS Downtime Schedule – sample • SLAC Downtime Schedule • Controlled by Area Managers • Tasks show SLAC resources • LCLS is one part of a 42 page downtime schedule • Weekly meetings to review schedule and site outages • LCLS P3 -> spreadsheet -> Downtime tasks -> schedule • LCLS Downtime meetings • Weekly meetings held by various groups plus weekly integration meeting • Interfacing with SLAC groups on a routine basis

  9. SLAC 2006 Downtime Schedule & PPS certification periods NNNNNNRRR 20 week down: 14 weeks day shifts; 3 weeks swing only; 2 weeks over holidays & Christmas for installation & checkouts - Week 18 is no access for global PPS

  10. Injector/Linac Installation status • Downtime progress • Downtime started 8/21/06 • Linac sector 21 being prepared for installations • Focusing on Linac work plan, 2 shift work and swing whenever possible • Now entering week 10 of 20 week downtime • Installation subcontracts • Mechanical • Mechanical installations in 5-6 packages • Supports in Injector Vault; • Linac – Insertion area supports; BC1 install; etc • Cable Plant • Subcontract let • Cables installed 9/25 through 11/12 • Terminations scheduled for 12/4 through 12/15 • Component Installations • Mechanical • Injector components installed through end of December • Linac on schedule to close by end of December

  11. Summary Optimum work schedule continues for the 2006 downtime Update/revise Downtime schedule from weekly meetings Integrate systems to determine turn on date Next Installation Phase will be different 2007 SLAC downtime to install Linac hardware Same scheduling processes as 2006 Beneficial occupancy of Conventional Facilities will bring the “mass” installation of technical components It’s possible that B.O. date will be identical for BTH through Far Hall Does not require Linac/PEPII down for LCLS installations Need to coordinate several subcontracts (~6-10?) to install mechanical systems and cable plant simultaneously Installation schedule may use detailed P3 schedule with hourly task durations Need to begin this process ASAP – Integration of overall plan is a must
