  1. Steel Doors Repair Steel doors repair is actually one of the main benefits of having chosen a steel door over a wood, aluminum or other composite material door. When damage occurs to a door, steel doors can most often be repaired at a low cost, whereas other doors generally must be replaced completely. In addition, steel doors consistently provide superior performance in regards to sound reduction, sanitation, thermal insulation, vandalization resistance, fire rating and security. Steel doors repair is often needed for aesthetic purposes, because their physical strength keeps them from sustaining structural damage. Modern steel doors are no longer one solid piece of metal. Design advancements have reduced costs, increased fire prevention and enhanced noise dampening by positioning a foam core, which is generally polyurethane, between two plates of steel as the exterior faces of the door. Steel doors repair for aesthetic damage such as dents or punctures to one of the exterior faces can be approached similar to body damage sustained to a car. An individual or professional can fairly easily apply putty (often known as bondo - an oil-based moldable substance similar to clay or dough) to the door to return to a new appearance. If the steel door is painted, it must first be well sanded before applying the putty to fill in the dent or hole. It then must set and dry, and can then be sanded down to match the original appearance of the door. This exterior fix can then be painted just as if it were the original material to match the rest of the door. Steel doors repair can also be needed in other aspects of a doors function. We generally think of doors as a simple, single thing, but there are many important parts that can wear overtime and lead to problems if not maintained properly. A door has five major parts to keep in check: ●Lintel - this is the horizontal beam across the top of the door frame that holds the wall, and can cause misalignment and unnecessary wear on the door. ●Jambs - These are the upright side of the door frame where the hinges attach on one side and the bolt locks into on the other. Damage to the handle and hinges can be caused over time from improper installation. ●Still - For exterior doors, this is the plate that lines the bottom of the door and overlaps the outdoor floor surface. ●Doorstop - this is the vertical, protruding section down the side of the jambs that stop the door and keep it aligned correctly with the lock and hinges. Steel doors repair can be assessed by looking into certain key areas. A level should be used to make sure the door frame is still square. Depending on the age of the door, the interior foam can decompose or sustain enough damage to need replacement. For exterior doors, delamination can occur, where the waterproof, flame retardant surface of the door needs to be refinished. Rust damage is maybe the most obvious, and can be repaired similarly to a dent by sanding and using a putty to remold the surface to its original state.
