  2. Agenda Abstract Motivation Introduction Objective Literature Survey Problem Definition Web Compression Issues Existing System Proposed System Conclusion Papers publication updates References Existing System - Implementation

  3. Abstract Web browsers are used on daily basis, where web compression plays an important role in compressing the web pages and thereby, it helps the users in loading the web pages faster. The study is done under the concept of compression in the web, which is highly focused where different kinds of compression techniques with detailed background are studied. While studying the existing works from previous researchers, the problem issues are analyzed. Other problem issues related to this work will also be discussed, where the solutions will be further extended in the future works

  4. Motivation To enhance the performance of web browsers by compressing the web transmission data, which optimizes thereby reducing the traffic and latency.

  5. Introduction Domain : Signal Processing and Multimedia Sub-Domain : Web and Multimedia Research Area : Web Performance

  6. Objective • Aim of the Project:- • To understand, analyze the problem issues comparing with previous works and find solutions using it for future works. • To build a better web optimization solution that will increase the performance rate.

  8. Literature Survey – Contd… • [1] Christopher Hoobin, Simon J. Puglisi, Justin Zobel, “Relative Lempel Ziv Factorization for efficient storage and retrieval of web collections”, 38th International Conference on Very Large Databases, Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment, Vol.5, No.11, 2011. • The LZ77 is adopted where it relates to Gzip mechanism. • The Gzip works under Deflate algorithm and works under Huffman encoding and decoding. • The range encoding/decoding is better than Huffman encoding/decoding since it works under fast arithmetic coding. • Hence, thereby it requires improvement.

  9. Literature Survey – Contd… • [2] Parekar P.M., Thakare S.S, “Lossless Data Compression – A Review”, International Journal of Computer Science and Information Technologies, vol.5, no.1, 2014. • The lossless data compression algorithms are addressed such as RLE (Run Length Encoding) algorithm, LZ77, LZW and LZMA. • The concept of LZMA does not satisfy speed in terms of compression.

  10. Literature Survey – Contd… • [3] Seema, Priyanka Makkar, “An approach to improve the web performance by prefetching the frequently access pages,” International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Engineering and Technology, vol.1, no.4, June 2012. • The web prefetching mechanism was addressed for improving cache size, which will gradually improve the performance. • Yet, it failed to address the data compression, which could have been one of the best measure for enhancing web performance.

  11. Literature Survey – Contd… • [4] M.Sudha, Dr.S.Palani, “A novel implementation of wavelet transform and Lzma for compression and decompression of document images”, International Journal of Innovations in Engineering and Technology (IJIET), Vol.2, Issue 3, June 2013. • The LZMA mechanism is used in successfully accomplishing the compression. • But, it failed to show the performance values and also failed to prove it is better than others through comparison. • The LZMA has drawbacks in sliding window dictionary which is possibility of overhead when heavy process is performed. • So, it requires improvements upon all basis.

  12. Literature Survey – Contd… • [5] Karthik GopalRatnam, Daniel J.Cook, “Active Lezi: An incremental parsing algorithm for sequential prediction”, International Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools, 2004. • An optimized LZ77 tool was done. • But, experiencing some drawbacks in LZ77, then it proceeded to improvise it using LZMA mechanism tool including block sorting data compression, where Static HTML Transform (SHT) and Semi-Dynamic HTML Transform (SDHT) was proposed. • Yet, it failed to satisfy the compression in CSS page bloats which includes various fonts and styles, which led those CSS pages getting uncompressed instead of compressing them.

  13. Literature Survey – Contd… • [6] Fairuz S.Mahad,Wan M.N.Wan-Kadir,”Improving web server performance using two-tier web caching,” Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology, vol.52, no.3, June 2013. • The attempt to improve web server performance inorder to reduce the overloading of network traffic and congestion. • But, it failed in terms of memory compression.

  14. Problem Definition To address the issues and solutions in web performance, thereby providing a better solution. To address the compression issues in text, images, audio and video.

  15. Web Compression Issues Spatial redundancy Coding redundancy Spectral redundancy Psycho Visual redundancy

  16. Existing System • LZ77 • Fixed Length phrases –> Lookahead Buffer and Search Buffer • Limitations – Fails in string replacement. • LZSS • LZSS – String replacement. • Limitations – No strings matching and Fails in Preloading. • LZ78 • Both String matching and String replacement. • Limitations – Parsing issues and Optimal predictability is low. • LZMA • Parsing and Encoding of source data, finite state compression using markov chain. • Limitations – Limited speed in compression & attains low compression than Gzip which follows DEFLATE algorithm.

  17. Proposed System - Algorithm LZBMHM – Lempel Ziv Bit Masking Hidden Markov --- Proposed algorithm. A better algorithm than LZMA. LZMA follows Predictive by Partial Matching (PPM), Markov Chains, Sliding dictionary mechanism and range coding. The proposed LZBMHM follows the improved prediction method of Hidden Markov Web proposed from the hidden markov model, Vector Quantization including the Discrete Cosine Transform along with range coding.

  18. Proposed System - Modules • Encoder Level • Bitmasking for Web • Hidden Markov Web • Vector Quantization and Forward DCT • Decoder Level • Bitmasking for web • Hidden Markov Web • Inverse Vector Quantization and Inverse DCT

  19. Proposed System - Architecture

  20. Proposed architecture – Vector Quantization

  21. Proposed System – Vector Quantization How it works? Encoder levelStep 1--- Compressing into code blocks.Step 2--- Generation of codebook for the code blocks.Step 3--- Eliminating data redundancy.Step 4--- Optimized codebook generated.Step 5--- Transformed into code vectors from indices. Decoder levelStep 1--- Reverse process is applied.Step 2--- Reconstruction of data into original format.

  22. Discrete Cosine Transforms (DCT) DCT is composed of 8 standards namely DCT-1, DCT-2, DCT-3, DCT-4, DCT-5, DCT-6, DCT-7 and DCT-8. The DCT-2 deals with the approximation of eigen vectors. While dealing with scaling towards DCT-1 to DCT-4, the eigenvectors becomes orthogonal. The boundary conditions give second order accuracy around the center points. The DCT-1 mainly discusses on the orthogonal power of the eigenvectors. The DCT-2 is where its magic is applied in JPEG image compression by means of 8X8 block. The DCT-3 gets defeated by DCT-4. The DCT-4 focusses on orthogonal side and matrix factorization, where it also reveals the usage of Discrete Sine Transform (DST). The DCT-5 and DCT-6 have a great coding gain when compared to DCT-2. The boundary conditions can be easily overlapped in DCT-7 and DCT-8 when compared to DCT-4. Thereby, It has been analyzed that Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is more efficient.

  23. BitMasking Bitmasking is termed as the code compression based technique where it helps in achieving speed of compression and decompression. Problem Issues:- Uncompressed data and mismatches. Proposed method: BitMasking for web

  24. Hidden Markov Hidden Markov is termed as statistical markov model in which the system follows markov process with hidden states, where the term "statistical" refers to how one or more random variables are related to one or more variables. How hidden markov different from Markov chains? The Markov chain consists of set of finite states, whereas the hidden markov consists of set of hidden states. The Hidden markov can be represented as the dynamic Bayesian network. (i.e.) Hidden Markov can also be said as the Combo of Markov chain + dynamic Bayesian network.

  25. Proposed System - requirements • Software requirements:- • Operating System: Windows or any operating systems • Web Server: Any • Web Browsers: IE/Google Chrome/Firefox • Possible Programming languages: JavaScript or Go or Dart (undecided)

  26. Conclusion From this research survey, the web caching, compression and algorithms such as LZ77, LZ78 and LZMA are addressed along with the issues and analysis being discussed in the aspect of performance, where the solutions will be implemented in the upcoming future works.
