  1. Atlanta Public Schools The Venetian Bee Venetian Hills Elementary School November, 2011 Linking the School, Home, and Community Teacher of the Month "Education is the cornerstone of our total life. My philosophy of education is that I believe all students are different but have some of the same wonderful qualities that make them special. It is important as an educator to pave the road for the students we teach.” School is well under way. Students are settling into their routines, making friends and acquiring new skills. Currently, we are working on preparing our students for the school-wide Science Fair. One of our goals is to lead the SRT in science education. To encourage student interest in science we have provided students with two exciting science assemblies.  As a former science teacher, I believe science helps students explore the world around them and equips them with critical thinking skills to be competitive learners.    Venetian is a great place!  We strive to provide a school environment that is warm, safe and inviting. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please stop by the main office and drop a card in our suggestion box. Thank you for all of your support. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, is a measurement defined by the United States federal No Child Left Behind Act that allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests. All kindergarten through twelfth grade schools are required to demonstrate AYP in the areas of reading, language arts, math, and attendance. The Principal’s Book of the Month “The Stranger” by Chris Van Allsburg It is late summer when Farmer Bailey accidentally hits a man with his truck. The man has lost his memory, and Farmer Bailey takes him into his home to recuperate. Weeks pass but the stranger still does not know who he is or where he came from. One day a group of geese flies overhead, going south. The stranger follows them with his eyes until they are out of sight. Farmer Bailey begins to notice how strange the weather is. The stranger seems to have a mysterious relationship with the weather. Could he be Jack Frost? Each student received a Student Handbook at the beginning of the school year which states the APS anti-bullying policy. Please be aware of the actions below which are considered to be a form of bullying. Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing. Two of the main reasons people are bullied are because of appearance and social status. Bullies pick on the people they think don’t fit in, maybe because of how they look or how they act (for example: kids who are shy and withdrawn). Here at Venetian Hills we know that bullying will not be tolerated and that there is “No Place for Hate”!
