  1. CITRUS FRUIT IN CALABRIA Citron

  2. The citron is a fragrant fruit with the botanical name Citrus medica. The citron is unlike the more common citrus species like the lemon or orange. While the most popular fruits are peeled in order to consume its pulpy and juicy segments, the citron's pulp is very dry containing only little insipid juice.

  3. Santa Maria del Cedro is a town in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. The towns name indicates the cultivation of the special Diamante Citron which uses as Etrog for the Jews, during their Feast of Tabernacles.

  4. The color varies from green, when unripe, to a yellow-orange when overripe. The citron would never fall off the tree and could reach 8-10 pounds (4-5 kg) if not picked off timely or even early. However, they should be picked off before the winter as the branches might break, or bend to the ground and may cause numerous fungal diseases for the tree.
