  1. The excitingDisclosure Document

  2. There will be a quiz on the information contained in the disclosure document next class period, be sure to study and return the sign portion!

  3. First Things First Return signed Disclosure Document. Pay class fee @ the financial office or online and turn in receipt to Ms. Shuler! Get any materials you will need.

  4. GRADES • I do NOT grade on talent – I grade on meeting the criteria and putting in the work. • Attendance is 20+% of your grade. • I do NOT give grades!!! You earn your grade by doing the work required for the grade you want. It’s that simple! • Participation Points will be given for coming to class on time, staying in class, working the entire time, participating in activities, and cleaning up. • Other points are earned by doing: roll call assignments, daily journal writing, sketches, learning activities, quizzes, homework, the art history project, term project, and ART PROJECTS (the majority of points). • You are responsible for keeping track of your assignments, due dates and grade and INFORMING THE TEACHER IF A MISTAKE HAS BEEN MADE ON YOUR GRADE. (Be sure to save all your work until the final grade has been given.) • Everyone can get an A if you are willing to do the work.

  5. Roll Call Assignment Get into your “Right” mind!!! The roll call activity is designed to help you get into the more creative side of the brain and start thinking about art. These activities can NOT be made up, so make sure you get here on time.

  6. Journal • Each day, after roll, we will be writing down announcements, reminders, due dates, homework, fun art facts and/or reflective writing in a journal. • We will be making the journals in class. • Journals will be checked periodically for points. • DO NOT LOSE YOUR JOURNAL!!!

  7. Sketch Book (Drawing and Art Foundation students only.) • Just like warming up before physical activity, the brain needs to “warm-up” for artistic activity. So, almost everyday we will spend a few minutes working in our sketch books. • Your sketch book is where you practice skills, experiment and have fun with out the pressure of creating a finished piece. • The sketch books will be turned in periodically for grading so DO NOT LOSE YOUR SKETCH BOOK!!!

  8. Homework: Painting & Drawing students will almost always have a homework assignment. Sculpture students will occasionally have homework! Extra Credit: Everyone can earn up to 50 points extra credit per term. However, it harder to earn points through extra credit than it is doing your assignments. Late Work Policy: Projects are usually due at the beginning of the next class after we have finished working on them. Due dates are written in journals and posted on the website. YOU MUST PUT A LATE PASS with all “Excused Late Work” or it will get ½ credit. “Unexcused Late Work” is worth ½ credit. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK THE LAST WEEK OF THE TERM!!!

  9. I expect student to be 100% honest. • Not doing your own work is dishonest. • Anyone caught lying, cheating, deceiving, or not being 100% honest will get a zero on their assignment AND lose up to 50 additional points! • I don’t have a sense of humor about dishonesty!!!

  10. TEACHER EXPECTATIONS RESPECT • Respect for the teacher: pay attention, don’t interrupt. • Respect for others: don’t bother or annoy, don’t disrespect others art work, don’t bring food or drinks to class, respect others belongings, use appropriate language. • Respect for building, equipment and supplies: take care of equipment, clean up your own mess, don’t waste supplies. • Respect for yourself: act appropriately, wear appropriate clothing, do your best. PARTICIPATION • Come to class prepared with supplies. • Leave your negative attitude at the door. • Do class and homework assignments. • Do the roll call activity • Write in your journal every class. • Participate in class discussions and activities. • Help clean up and take care of the classroom. • Don’t waste time!

  11. Cell Phone and other electronic devises: • All electronic devices should be put away, out of sight, UNLESS the teacher says you may get them out. • Listening to music during work time onlyis a privilege you may lose if you misuse it. • You will lose points if you have electronic devises out without permission.

  12. Leaving Class, Hall Passes, Tardies and Absences: • Anyone out in the hall without signing for a hall pass loses 10 points. • Anyone “disappears” from class loses all participation points for the day and will be given an unexcused absence. • Each student is allowed 3 hall passes per term. If you don’t use them they can be used for extra credit at the end of the term. If you use extra hall passes they cost you points! • It is very important to get to class on time (roll call activities can not be made up)! If you come in after roll call YOU are responsible to sign in, if you don’t you will remain marked absent. • If you have an excused absence (including school excused activities) YOU are responsible to find out what you missed and get your work in by the due date (one week after an excused absence). If you have an unexcused absence you can NOT make up the work you missed!

  13. You have a unique “voice.” What is it you have to say? Say it through your art work. Care about what you are creating! Don’t just “get the grade” – that is lame and NOT ART! NO COP OUTS!!! • Don’t be afraid to fail, “One who makes no mistakes never makes anything.” BE FEARLESS! • “There is no such thing as a talent fairy!” You have to work hard and stick with it, just like most other good things in life. Don’t miss out because your afraid of hard work. I cant wait to see what you create!!!
