What is the Global Water Crisis? • Some one billion people lack access to safe water. • That’s 1 in every 7 • An estimated 2.6 billion people need access to adequate sanitation. • Some 5,000 children die everyday from water-related disease. • More than 50% of the world’s hospital beds are filled due to water-related illness.

  5. Who is Water Missions International? WMI is anengineering relief and development Christian nonprofit.  Its engineers, staff and volunteers design and provide sustainable, safe water solutions to developing countries and disaster victims worldwide. Since 2001, Water Missions International has responded to the world's largest natural disasters and daily tackles the world’s single biggest cause of illness—lack of safe water and adequate sanitation (U.N. Report, 2005).  Charleston, S.C.-based Water Missions International has received Charity Navigators top rating six years in a row; a result only 3% of charities can claim!

  11. Recent Developments for WMI • Receipt of largest grant to date, $1,000,000 CHALLENGE GRANT • Move to new location in N. Charleston with FOUR TIMES THE SPACE available at previous location • Founders received Solar World Einstein Award for key contributions in advancing and using solar power. In its eighth year, this is the first Einstein Award ever won by an American organization.

  12. How the ClemsonArea Walk will support Water Missions International Our Walk is raising funds that will enable safe water to flow in a village in Kenya!

Building on Success from 2012!! • Inaugural Clemson Area Walk for Water was held last year • Over 400 participants! • Over $25,000raised • Proceeds allow for a complete LWTS to be purchased and installed in Marche Canard, Haiti • Population: 1,200 • Haiti Evangelical Christian Mission • 150-member church • 250-student school • Health clinic

  14. Every day, millions of women and children in developing countries walk nearly 4 miles to retrieve water to meet their family’s daily needs.

  15. The 2013 ClemsonArea Walk for Water will simulate that trek, as you carry buckets of water along the route.

  21. Our Goal Is Simple… • Raise enough to provide installation of LWTS in Kenya. • $30,000 covers assembly, delivery, installation, operation and maintenance training, health and hygiene education.
