  2. The Beginning • An outline of a realistic fiction story should form a “mountain” • It begins at the bottom introducing the reader to the characters, setting, and goals of the story • These need to be included at the beginning of the story otherwise the reader will be confuses.

  3. Climax • After the beginning our story must begin to “climb” characters must begin to figure out how they will reach their goal, and why they want to reach it • The climax is the “summit” of the story. • The main character overcomes the obstacles and achieves their goal.

  4. Conclusion • This is the climb back down we begin to see the effects of the character’s goal being achieved • A good ending can make a mediocre story great • At the end of the story the character should have achieved their goal, resolved any conflict, and have moved on in life • Make sure it is clear how achieving their goal changed the character’s life
