INTRODUCTION TO STAFF Vivian Gonzalez Main Dental Assistant • Vivian is the person you will interact with most. • She will be present with you in the clinic the whole week & is responsible for: • Assisting volunteers and translation • Supplies ordering & inventory • Sterilization & maintenance procedures

INTRODUCTION TO STAFF Zaira Carrazco Front Desk Manager • Managing patient flow • Receiving • Appointments • Patient Records • Fees • Each patient pays the equivalent of $1.50 per visit.The City of Peronia collects these fees to fund the clinic when OWF moves on in five years. Security staff is on site 24/7.

  7. SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK 7am Breakfast each morning 8am Bus leaves hotel for the clinic 9am Arrive at clinic, Start of Day 12pm-1 Lunch 3pm End of Day Clean-up 3:30-4pm Bus leaves for Antigua EVENINGS ARE FREE

  12. CLINIC SETUP Tray Setup • Exam Basic Tray • Restorative Tray • Extraction Tracy All specialty supplied are kept in team baskets. Example: Matrix, Tofflemires, Etch, Wedges, Burs, etc.

  13. CLINIC SETUP Team Table • Cotton roll dispenser • Disinfecting wipes • Needle container • Cotton tip applicators Team Basket Team members fill the team baskets with the products they need from the supply cabinets

  14. TRIAGE SYSTEM • We recommend using a Triage System to maximize patient flow. • The triage chair is operatory #1 near x-ray. A Triage Doctor or Hygienist will: • Diagnose the patient • Chart all decay (no probing) • Numb the area that needs attention • Re-seat the patient in the triage area • See the next patient

RESORATIVE TEAMS A Restorative Doctor will get patient: • TRIAGED PATIENT • Perform treatment • Chart work done • Make notes on next visit recommendations & timing • Communicate post treatment care 2 “There are times of day when there are not patients in triage, so all dentists can bring a patient from the waiting room,” • NON-TRIAGED PATIENT • Diagnose the patient • Chart all decay • Numb the area that needs attention • Then, follow TRIAGED PATIENT STEPS

  18. DAILY STATISTICS Statistics we compile include the following: - Patient Name - Male or Female - Adult or Child - Treatment provided

STERILIZATION Surgical Instruments: • Hand pieces are sterilized after surgical procedures • Place all surgical instruments & surgical burs in the ultrasonic • Rinse all surgical Instruments & surgical burs after ultrasonic cycle • Place surgical Instruments and surgical burs on towel to dry • Bag dry surgical Instruments do not bag surgical burs • Place dry surgical Instruments and burs in sterilizer • After sterilization place bagged surgical Instruments in drawers • Place surgical burs in the surgical bur container

STERILIZATION Non-surgical Instruments: • Place all Instruments and burs in the front ultrasonic • Rinse all Instruments and burs after ultrasonic cycle • Place Instruments and burs on towel to dry • Place dry instruments un-bagged in Statim • Brush and place burs/bur blocks in metal trough sterilize as needed • After Statim cycle place sterilized instruments in drawer • Hand pieces and Air/water syringes are sterilized at the end of the day.

  21. BEGINNING OF DAY • On your first day in the clinic, Vivian will give you a full orientation tour of the clinic. • Next you’ll get your specialized items and put them in your team basket. • Start seeing patients

  22. END OF DAY CLEAN UP End of Day Checklist • Clean and sterilize hand pieces and syringe tips. • Wipe all surfaces of the chair and base. • Flush Vacuum lines • Refill water bottles with distilled water. • Lube hand pieces • Lock all cabinets
