  1. Sunil Gavaskar Says There Should Be A Process To Decide Winner In Case Of A Drawn WTC Final Former India captain and one of the greatest Test batsmen of all-time Sunil Gavaskar has said that the ICC should come up with a formula or method to select the winner for the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) if the match ends in a draw. However, both India and New Zealand are playing in the final where two full days were abandoned due to rain and bad weather in Southampton already. Image source by twitter India could manage 217 in their first innings and in reply New Zealand had moved to 101 for 2 in their first innings at the end of Day 3. With rain being spoilsport again on Day 4, New Zealand put up 249 runs in their first innings as well. And, India started their second innings too. “There must be a formula to pick a winner in case of a drawn World Test Championship final. ICC’s cricket committee should think and then take a decision," said Gavaskar. On the other hand, the ICC had earlier stated that the trophy will be shared if the match ends in a draw or a tie as well. Meanwhile, Gavaskar has also given the examples of other sports like football and tennis where there tie-breaker takes place to decide a result.

This will be the first time that the trophy will be shared in a final. To complete three innings in two days would be really difficult. Yes, if both teams bat really badly, the three innings could be completed. In football, they have a penalty shootout or they have some other method to decide a winner. In tennis, there are five sets and there is a tie-breaker," the veteran further added.
