How Roof top unit help in keeping the building cool

The use of roof top unit usually comes in a packaged form that mainly uses the HVAC system for cooling. Also, regarded as the most common type of cooling system, these packaged units are pre-engineered to suit the needs. Usable both in residential places and commercial buildings, the application for these cooling units are many. The adaptability of such systems is the key to leverage multiple functioning.

  1. How Roof top unit help in keeping the building cool The use of roof top unit usually comes in a packaged form that mainly uses the HVAC system for cooling. Also, regarded as the most common type of cooling system, these packaged units are pre-engineered to suit the needs. Usable both in residential places and commercial buildings, the application for these cooling units are many. The adaptability of such systems is the key to leverage multiple functioning.

  2. Additionally, these units are greatly cost-effective. Hence the usage not only brings the desired cooling in the building but also does so at a minimum expense. Even though the primary function is to cool down the temperature, installation of roof top unit can also warm the temperature in winter. However, this post mainly focuses on how these units can help in keeping the building cool in warm temperatures and summer effectively.

  3. Roof top units: What is it? As the name suggests, the roof top units are temperature-regulating packages that are installed as a unit, mainly on the roof of a house or a building. The total package of these units contains a lot of components and devices; most of them are for air conditioning. The main components included are-

  5. Evaporator coil This coil helps in the evaporation of the moisture and the water retained in the pipes.

  6. Fan The fan is used mainly for cooling down the system when it gets heated excessively.

  7. Compressor This is the main engine of the unit. It powers all the necessary parts of the unit and keeps the coolant system steady.

  8. Condenser This helps in the proper working of the coolant system.

  9. Rare models can also be mounted on the ground in a slab like format. The residential properties mainly use the split system. Most of the packaged units have no separation of the main components.

  10. Roof top units: How does it work? Roof top unit mainly performs certain functionalities. 1. The Heat is taken out After the installation of the unit, the refrigerant, which is low pressured and cools, is accumulated in the compressor. It forms into a highly pressurized and hot gas which goes in the condenser. The coil is present at that part which absorbs the heat by its metallic fins. After the heat is dispersed, the exhaust is blown away. The return air mainly gets transported via the ductwork. The fresh air that enters is well filtered before it reaches the cooling equipment.

  11. Roof top units: How does it work? 1. Refrigerant Cycle The refrigerant cycle consists of the following steps- The liquid refrigerant is cooled and is passed via the evaporator coil. The liquid turns back to the gas as soon as the pressure drops. When the warm air is passed through the evaporator coil, the heat is extracted by the refrigerant. The newly formed ice cold air is transported to the building. After absorbing the heat, the warm refrigerant goes back to the compressor. The exhaust system releases the heat, and the cycle continues until the desired temperature is reached.
