  2. (516) 512-8888 In gestational surrogacy, a woman carries and gives birth to a baby on behalf of someone else. The woman carrying the baby is referred to as the gestational carrier or gestational surrogate. The parents who will receive their baby through this surrogate are called intended parents. They will be actively involved throughout the surrogate’s pregnancy and child birth. In this type of surrogacy the gestational carrier is not related to the baby. The egg and sperm are both harvested from the intended parents. Through in vitro fertilization or IVF, eggs from the intended mother are used to produce an embryo which are then implanted into the carrier mother. Fertilization occurs in a laboratory and the resulting embryos are transferred to gestational carrier’s uterus.
