  1. Hazardous Waste Treatment: Can Anyone Do It?

  2. Hazardous wastes are those whose properties make them harmful to the environment and human health. These hazardous wastes can come from many sources, from industrial manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, or other industries. These wastes, which can be present in any state, can cause damage due to improper treatment of hazardous waste and its consequences can be very negative.

  3. For example, people living near landfills can find themselves in a very vulnerable position. For all these reasons, governments strictly regulate the disposal of waste and hazardous waste. And thus, fix existing problems and even prevent future damage. The destruction of this type of waste must be carried out by means of a hazardous waste disposal permit. In this article we explain the different forms of Hazardous Waste Treatment that exist to ensure proper treatment. When is it considered a hazardous waste? Not all waste is considered toxic or dangerous. To have this consideration, they must meet a series of characteristics. Although not all properties are required to be considered a toxic waste, it must be an element: Explosive or highly flammable. Toxic and Oxidizing agent With carcinogenic properties. Compliance with these properties makes waste hazardous and, therefore, its treatment must be specific and qualified. Types of hazardous waste treatment There are different ways to treat hazardous waste. It is always better to reduce the amount of waste at the source or even recycle materials that can be productively reused. However, these measures do not solve the problem of disposing of this waste. Hazardous waste treatment is diversified because different methods can be used: Chemical method: Some of the chemical treatments are ion exchange, oxidation and reduction, chemical precipitation and neutralization. This method is used to convert hazardous waste into non-toxic gases by changing its chemical properties. For example, cyanide can go through an oxidation process, turning this toxic residue into a non-toxic product. Another chemical process would be water separation, which allows the water to be extracted from organic waste and then removed by incineration.

  4. Thermal method: This method uses high temperatures to burn the materials. The thermal method can not only detoxify some organic materials but also destroy them completely. Special thermal devices are used for the incineration of solid, liquid, or sludge waste. Despite its effectiveness, this method has a drawback, namely that incineration of hazardous waste by thermal methods can lead to air pollution. Biological method: It is used to treat organic waste, for example from the oil industry. One method of treating biohazard waste is tillage. This technique consists of mixing the waste with the soil surface in a suitable area of land. Certain types of microbes may be added to metabolize wastes and certain nutrients. There are cases in which genetically modified bacteria are used. Microbes are also used to stabilize hazardous waste. This process is known as bioremediation. It should be noted that these soils are not suitable for growing food. Physical method: While the above methods manipulate the molecular shape of the waste, the physical treatment involves concentrating, solidifying, or reducing the volume of the waste. Some of the methods used are evaporation, flotation, sedimentation, and filtration. Another very popular process is solidification, which consists of encapsulating the waste in asphalt, plastic, or concrete. Encapsulation creates a strong resistance to leaching. It is also possible that the waste is mixed with fly ash, water, and lime to form a different type of solid similar to cement. Who is responsible for the disposal of hazardous waste? No one can do the hazardous waste disposal process, but they must be trained and have the proper certifications. We have all the certifications and highly qualified professionals that allow us to eliminate toxic and dangerous waste without representing a danger to third parties. If you want to eliminate hazardous waste at an industrial level, always trust certified companies. This not only ensures that they have the right professionals, but that they have been evaluated and validated by the government agencies responsible for overseeing the management of these emissions. Contact us and meet the professionals who handle Hazardous Waste!
