  4. Foundation for Success • What we Do is more important than how we Feel. • Ask yourself these TWO questions....

  5. Prevent with Non-verbal cues“Habit Strategies” 1. Verbally thank students w/appropriate behavior • Whatever we pay attention to we get more of 2. Call to Attention Signal 3. Correction Cards (Pre-made) 4. Use a timer 5. Promote Handraising (4) • Raise hand, please raise hand if…, thank you, did not see a hand • Code System (0-3) (Can be school-wide) • WHISPER CLUB • Mystery Motivator

  6. Examples of Choices/Options • Put your desks in circles or rows? • Whisper or talk quietly? • Clap or snap for friends? • Walk down this hall or that hall? • Have lights on or off? Music on or off? • Read on the floor or in your seat? • Pass your papers in to the front or to the back? • Stop reading now or 5 minutes from now? • Would you like to put that away or would you like for me to put it away? • WHY DOES THIS WORK? Deposits and withdrawals....

Strategies that promote success!“Capable” • Success Chain – see strategy handout • Desk Pad Barometer – see strategy handout • Success Box/Bonus Box – enter students names for random drawings based on behavior, participation, grades, etc. – see strategy handout • Countdown for each directive • On-Task Board– students names stay on the board while behaving appropriately

  8. “Contributing”Instructional Techniques to promote participation • Conversation Circles – inner/outer circle; rotate and discuss/review; teaches social skill of listening and many others • Dry erase boards or SOLO plates – one per student with marker and napkin or used dryer sheets • Cooperative groups with specific roles
