IDEAS ON ISSUES I Informal economies make up over 60 % of some S.A. countries Informal “sector” is not a sector Discrimination in access to jobs for women because of child bearing - then lack of norm to support them once working Pesticides - cross borders - also has implications for reproduction Research infrastructure is being developed for cross-border health issues - what is being done to collect data (obstacles to research - permits)

IDEAS ON ISSUES II Education and lack of knowledge on the part of workers - “right to know” Lack of sewage treatment plants - lack of water Mental Health Aging workers Border issues Impact of political instability and corruption on health (importance of transparency) Impact of education on health

  4. IDEAS ON ISSUES III Lead and heavy metals along the border > effect on children Water, air contamination are major issues in S.A. Cross-border trucking Transportation is #1 cause of occup. deaths in US (probably in S.A. too) Immigration/migration

  5. CRITERIA FOR RANKING Affects more than a few countries Creates an economic impact Is occupational-oriented Is forward looking (not yet focused on) Follow the money! Local impact

Transcription of flip charts Engage other federal and private support Send out request for contacts Develop a media plan Decide on position papers, fact sheets, commissioned papers Set a meeting date for this group to follow regional sessions Nov. 8th at EPA (tentative) Resolutions?
