  1. Welcome to5th Grade Mrs. Lewis

  2. Arrival at school • The official opening of school each day is 7:55 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be marked tardy. • If you eat breakfast at school, go straight to the cafeteria when you arrive at school. • If you do not eat breakfast at school, go straight to the gym. Make sure you have a book to read!

  3. End of the day dismissal • At the end of the school day, all students will dismiss at 2:55 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, and on Mondays at 2:45 p.m. • Bus riders will exit through the courtyard. Walk on the sidewalk. Do not run! • Car riders will go to the gym. Walk on the right side of the hall. • 5th grade car riders are dismissed to the gym on the FIRST bell. • 5th grade bus riders are dismissed out the courtyard doors on the THIRD bell.

  4. Dress Code • 1. Hair must be clean and well groomed, and should not impair vision. No hairstyle, hair color, body piercing, clothing, or other article which is disruptive to the learning environment, will be allowed. • 2. Ear jewelry may be worn by females only. Nose jewelry is not to be worn by boys or girls while they are in school. • 3. Sun dresses and backless dresses or tops will be worn with a jacket or appropriate covering.

  5. Dress Code (con’t) • 4. Cutoff tops, tank tops, mesh tops, halter tops, tube tops, and midriff tops are not allowed. • 5. Jeans and other articles of clothing must be worn with no open holes. No shredded jeans will be allowed. • 6. Skirts, dresses, and shorts may be no shorter than four inches above the top of the knee. • 7. Tennis shoes must be worn during physical education classes and recess.

  6. Classroom Rules • Respect all adults, classmates, and property. • Follow directions • Stay on task • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself • Be prepared for learning: bring necessary materials to class, complete all homework and class work

  7. Hallway Procedures • Students will walk in the halls quietly/orderly • Students will stay to the right of the hallway

  8. Lunch Expectations • You may talk softly to the people around you in the lunchroom. • Use good manners. • Clean your area. • The lunch monitor or teacher will tell you when to take your tray. • The lunch helpers will clean the table and sweep. • The first 15 minutes of lunch is “silent”. After 15 minutes, students may go outside.

  9. Recess – Courtyard Rules • Stay off the trees • Keep out of the bushes and doorways • Play on the grass on Tuesday and Thursday only. Stay on the sidewalks on Monday, Wednesday and Friday • No running on the stairs or playing on the handrail • Stay away from classroom windows • No gymnastic activities!

  10. Recess – Playground Rules • No balls, playground equipment, etc. on the playground • No standing on top of the playground equipment • No jumping out of swings • Do not push anyone in the swings • Do not stand in front of or behind someone swinging

  11. Recess - Field • Stay off the trees and surrounding hills. • Stay away from the drain and street. • Keep on the grassy area. • Do not pull on the tether ball ropes. • Stop at the crosswalk and wait for teacher. permission to cross the street.

  12. Restroom Guidelines • Remain quiet and orderly in the restroom • Leave all items outside of the restroom • Wash your hands, clean the area around the sink, and throw trash in the trash can when exiting. • Do not be wasteful with restroom supplies • Do not climb or hang on the stalls, doors, or commodes, or sit on sinks.

  13. Class Expectations • Good behavior leads to positive learning experiences. Each day begins with a clean behavior slate! • The 1st time a rule is broken, it is a ‘verbal warning. • The 2nd incident, a conduct check will be given along with time out at recess. • The 3rd occurrence, the student will receive a conduct check, time out at recess, as well as a note home to inform you of the behavior. • If 4 violations occur in a day, the child will be sent to the office with a record of the undesired behaviors that affected his/her education and that of his/her peers.

  14. Conduct Grades • 0 conduct checks = Outstanding (O) • 1-3 conduct checks = Good (G) • 4-6 conduct checks = Satisfactory (S) • 7-9 conduct checks = Needs Improvement (N) • 10+ or more conduct checks = Unsatisfactory (U)

  15. Good Manners • Students should speak to others with respect. • Saying “good morning” and “good bye” • “Please” and “thank-you” • “Excuse me” • Treating others kindly

  16. Group Expectations • Respect other’s opinions • Encourage each other • All members participate • Listen to each member’s ideas • Share in responsibilities • Clean up and return supplies • Talk quietly at your group so you don’t disturb others • Make sure everyone in the group understands

  17. Other information • Bring a healthy snack and water bottle • Write homework in your husky pad daily • Graded papers and husky folders will go home on Friday. Return folders with papers signed on Monday.
