About Wyoming! • State Name: Wyoming • Capital: Cheyenne • Population: 563,626,000 • Entered the Union: July 10, 1890, as the 45th State • Motto: Equal Rights • Nickname: The Equality State • Flower: Indian Paintbrush • Bird: Meadowlark • Song: Wyoming • Meaning behind name: The name Wyoming is based on an Algonquin Indian word meaning large prairie place. • Weather: warm, but not as warm as other parts of the US. Average temperature is 92 degrees F. • Interesting Facts: 1. All of the street signs in Wyoming are printed in both English and American Sign Language. 2. The biggest city in Wyoming is smaller than the smallest city in California. 3. Wyoming was the first state to give women the right to vote. 4. The JCPenney stores were started in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
