  1. Let The Right One In A slide show by Gunnar Harrison

  2. John AjvideLindqvist • Born in 1968 in Blackeberg, Sweden. • Specializes in horror stories.

  3. Oskar • Main protagonist. • 12-year-old victim of school bullies. • Parents are divorced due to alcoholic abuse. • Lives next to a very strange girl.

  4. Hakan • Pedophile. • Collects blood to feed to Eli, the vampire girl he lives with. • Becomes mutated towards the end and hunts Eli and Oskar down.

  5. Favorite Character: Eli • Oskar’s vampire next door neighbor. • Becomes very good friends with Oskar. • Can only come out at night. • Very old; her past and creation are mysterious.

  6. Least Favorite Character: Oskar’s Father • A raging alcoholic. • Divorced from Oskar’s mother after one of his alcohol-induced outbursts. • Oskar visits him from time to time.

  7. Exposition • Oskar is a bullied boy at school who has no friends until he meets Eli, his mysterious next-door neighbor who’s also a vampire. Insane events unfold.

  8. Rising Action • The rising action occurs when Hakan escapes the hospital. He is physically deformed and is on the hunt for Oskar and Eli.

  9. Climax • The climax occurs when Hakan and Eli face off in the basement of their apartment complex.

  10. Falling Action • After the police find the bodies and Hakan is defeated, the action starts to fall into a more soothing tone.

  11. Resolution • Hakan is dead and Oskar is still alive and doing well. Or so it seems… The ending of this book is the most satisfying thing I’ve ever read.

  12. Setting • Blackeberg, Sweden • 1982 • A dreary, dark place.

  13. Theme • Dark (vampires, violence) • Warm (coming of age romance) • Uplifting (mostly the ending)

  14. Personal Rating • 9/10. It’s a very well written book that will reward the reader as long as you can stomach some of the more brutal sections. A very satisfying ending.

  15. Social Issue • I’ve chosen to write about alcohol abuse as my social issue. It’s a common problem throughout the world that needs to be recognized more often.

  16. YouTube Video Abuse Commercial

  17. Song • “Bostons” by Have Heart “…and in this father I hardly know, was a son who took back what the bottle stole.”
