  2. Power • Throughout history, there have been many leaders and rulers. • Eventually these rulers would have to be replaced. • This is where the power cycle originated.

  3. Inheritance • In some cultures, there was a method of changing power by bloodline. • This meant that the son or daughter of the ruler would eventually rule themselves.

  4. Force • In other cases, power can be taken by force. • This can sometimes cause conflict. • Many times in history, wars have broken out due to these less peaceful ways.

  5. Henry IV • In Henry IV, changing power can happen both ways. • Hal would inherit the throne naturally since he he the kings son. • Hotspur wanted to forcefully take the throne and the country away and split it into different parts.
