  3. Miss Gernert • 11 Years Teaching Experience • Graduated from Central Catholic/ Malone College • Received a Degree in Elementary Education 1-8 and a Reading Endorsement K-12

  4. Mrs. Lower • 7 Years Teaching Experience • Graduated from Northwest & Mount Union College • Received a degree in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Reading/Language Arts & Social Studies and a minor in Sociology • Obtained Generalist License to each Math & Science Grades 4-6 in Fall of 2008. I am currently working on my Masters. • Husband, Kevin • Daughters, Bayleigh (5) & Kendall (23 months)

  5. Mrs. Roesel • 3rd Year Experience • Graduated from Doylestown and the University of Akron • Received an Early Childhood Education License with a Reading Endorsement • Coaches Volleyball @ Barberton

  11. Student Selection Criteria • Reading Diagnostic Test-Scholastic (4th-6th) • Ohio Achievement Test • Prior Title One Services/Classroom Performance • Teacher Recommendation

  12. Student Selection Con’t • Math Assessment (4th-6th) • Reading Placement Test- Scott Foresman Series (3rd)

Let children see us reading Take children to the library Read road signs, labels, books, and magazines TOGETHER Give books as gifts Ask children to PREDICT what will happen next in their favorite t.v. show or movie Create a designated reading time that’s quiet 5 W’s-Who? What? Where? When? Why? ~THINGS WE CAN DO~Teacher Tips- Reading

  14. S-Scope it out. Browse through material M-Measure reading. Decide when/where to stop. A-Ask Questions(5 W’s) R-Read Carefully. T-Test understanding. Summarize what has been read and make connections. The SMART way to READ!!

  15. Demonstrate how to read/solve the problems carefully and reread if necessary Encourage children to be ACTIVE in class! They learn by DOING. Think of strategies to help children learn facts/concepts Keep a phone number of a friend in class they can contact if they need assistance ASK QUESTIONS!!!! ~THINGS WE CAN DO~Teacher Tips- MATH
