El Alhambra • El Alhambra was the most important Arabian palace, and best conserved • Alhambra means “the red one” which refers to the color mountains on which Alhambra was built • There is two entrances to the palace, one in the north and one in the south - North: Puerta de lasArmas - South: Puertade la Justicia

  3. El Alhambra Residence • This great military fortification was edited to be a place of residence in the 13th century, by Mohammed III. • Torre de la vela was a tower which had a great view of the city

Alhambra History - Alhambra was completed near the end of morrish rule in spain, by Yusuf 1 Alhambra shows the moorish culture that was brought into spain by moorish conquest Walls were originally whitewashed, but turned reddish as of late Alhambra was not a big strong fortress, determined armies could conquer if necessary In 1238 Abdallahibn al-ahmar came to the site where Alhambra was located, and inspected it He left designs for the castle, which included six palaces Previous castle depended on rainwater, new castle had irrigation system and gardens

  5. Alhambra Setting • The Alhambra is located in the Andalucia Region of Spain. • This is the southernmost Region in spain • The Fortification goes all the way back to the 9th century • Where it is located is in the mountanous landscape of Andalucia

  6. El Alhambra Palaces • The Palaces of Alhambra were mainly added under the rule of Mohammed V • Some of the names of these Palaces were: -Mexuar(originally built by Ismael 1, but reconstructed by Mohammed V) -The Palace of Comares - The Palace of Mohammed

  7. El Alhambra Gardens • The Alhambra Gardens were made around the early 14th century • They have their original shaping since they were made • The Gardens have been an inspiration to many musicians, and authors

  8. Alhambra Art • After the Christian conquest in 1492, Charles V redid the interior of the Alhambra • He took out furniture and ripped paintings • He replaced the paintings with Renaissance paintings

  9. Alhambra Art • Philip V italianized the rooms of the moorish palace • Charles V also tore down a moorish palace to create his own but never finished • Moorish art continued to take hits from leaders, and natural disasters

  10. Alhambra • The Alhambra resembled many midieval Christian Strongholds • The oldest part of the castle is the citadel (also called the alcazaba) • The Alhambra offers Spain a big Tourisim option. It is a special/beautiful place to visit so it offers help to the Spanish economy.
