  5. UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA is the largest research organisation in Slovenia However as the majority of European state universities, there is a problem with the integral financing. THE MAGNA CHARTA of European Universities states Freedom in research and teaching is the fundamental principle of university life, and governments and universities, each as far as in them lies, must ensure respect for this fundamental requirement. To preserve freedom in research and teaching, the instruments appropriate to realize that freedom must be made available to all members of the university community. Recruitment of teachers, and regulation of their status, must obey the principle that research is inseparable from teaching. IF YOU ARE FREE, YOU DO NOT NEED MONEY. 6. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We establish fruitful collaboration between: Geozentrum,Institut f. Mineralogie und Kristallographie Universitaet Wien, (principal investigators: Prof.Dr. E. Tillmanns, Prof.Dr. G.Giester, Dr. C.Lengauer ) and Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology,University of Ljubljana, (principal investigators: Prof.Dr. I. Leban, Prof.Dr. P. Šegedin, Prof.Dr. A. Meden, Dr. N. Lah) Unformal collaboration started in 1994 Bilateral projects 2000-2001 SLO-A 10,2002-2003 SLO-A 30 Structural features of Metal Carboxylates (financing cca. 2000 Euro/year) • RESULTS • Using excellent experimental facilities in Vienna • 12 common reseach papers (IF from 0.57 to 3.28) • Exchange of students under M.-Curie program and with support of OEAD • Members of the Ph.D. examination boards I just want that this type of collaboration will last in the future. Because cca. 15 % of European research money is spent on administration not on research. Wissenschaftlichen Kooperation zwischen Österreich und Slowenien 28. Januar 2003
