  1. Chesapeake Bay Pollution Web-Quest

  2. Table of Contents • Introduction • Task • Directions • Nutrient Pollution • Sediment Pollution • Chemical or Toxic Pollution • How Do We Help the Bay • All Websites • Poster Rubric • Conclusion

  3. Introduction • Did you know that all of the water in our stream runs into the Chesapeake Bay? If we pollute the stream, it could affect life in the Bay. • We know that our stream runs into the Codorus Creek, which runs into the Susquehanna River, which runs into the Chesapeake Bay. • Any substance that has an adverse effect on our water is called pollution. • There are three types of pollution: water, air and land. Today we will focus on water pollution. • The three types of water pollution are nutrient, sediment and toxic.

  4. Task and Essential Questions • Essential Questions: • How does each water pollution affect the Bay? • How does each water pollution affect what lives in the Bay? • How can we help keep pollution out of the Bay? • Using the websites for each type of water pollution, complete the graphic organizer. • On the back of the graphic organizer, list three activities that “you” can do to help the Bay. • In a group, create a poster persuading your classmates to perform one of the activities that “you” can do to help the Bay.

  5. Directions • First, take a look at the graphic organizer. There are three rows. Each has a type of water pollution. • Complete each row at a time. Use any or all of the websites listed on the next three slides to help you fill in the graphic organizer. Websites for each pollution are on different slides. • After completing the graphic organizer, turn to the back. Using the slide “What you can do for the Bay”, choose a website(s) to pick three activities you can do to help prevent or clean up the Chesapeake Bay. Write these activities and why you chose each on the back of your graphic organizer. • Finally, in your group create a poster to persuade your classmates on what they can do for the Bay. Make sure you include… • The activity to help the bay • How you perform the activity • Creativity ( color, neatness, originality, organization) • Persuade other students not in your group to perform the activity

By completing this assignment, you have already taken a step to help the Chesapeake Bay!!!!!
