  1. Symmetry

  2. Objectives • At the of this section, teachers should be able to: • Explain how to identify and draw a line of symmetry • Explain how to complete symmetrical figures • Explain how to identify symmetrical figures

  3. Objectives • At the of this section, students should be able to: • Identify and draw a line of symmetry • Complete symmetrical figures • Identify symmetrical figures

  4. Starter Activity-Symmetrical Painting Note: Students are provided with paint and papers. Put drops of different colours on  only half side of the paper and then fold it.

  5. Activity 1-Painting Note: Ask students to unfold their papers. Ask them what they have observed-Discussion

  6. Discussion

  7. Activity 2 Teachers' Note: Ask students to collect different types of leaves. Ask them to fold one of the leaves into exactly two equal parts. Ask them what they can observe.

  8. Activity 2 Teachers' Note: Ask students to unfold the leaf and discuss on what they have observed. 1. Tell the students to stick the leaf in their copybook and draw a dotted line in the middle. 2. Introduce the term “Symmetry” by explaining the meaning of this dotted line.

  9. Activity 2 A figure which has line(s) of symmetry is known as a symmetrical figure.

  10. Activity 3 Which of these figures is a symmetrical figure? Teachers note: Pair up the students. Give each group these two diagrams. Ask students to cut them off and repeat the steps of folding and unfolding. Discuss the results together

  11. Consolidation Work Note: Book – Page 87

  12. Let’s Practice – Activity 4 Complete the shading of this symmetrical figure.

  13. Activity 5 Complete the shape which has one line of symmetry

  14. Activity 6 Complete the shape to be able satisfy the line of symmetry

  15. Activity 7 Complete the shading to be able satisfy the line of symmetry

  16. More than one line of symmetry Let’s discuss: Can a shape have more than one line of symmetry? Let us take a flower.

  17. More than one line of symmetry

  18. More than one line of symmetry Try others by yourself 

  19. More than one line of symmetry One Two Three Four Five

  20. Consolidation Work Note: Book – Page 87
