TUBERCULOSIS: FAST FACTS • Racial and ethnic minorities are disproportionately affected by TB disease. • Medical comorbidities are more common among patients with TB from racial or ethnic minority groups. • Globally, TB incidence is falling at about 2% per year. • In 2017, a total of 9,105 TB cases were reported in the United States, and fall from previous years. • TB is one of the top 10 leading diseases in the world. • Note: Adapted from the World Health Organization: Global Tuberculosis Report 2019.

A HEALTH DISPARITY MOVEMENT The National Institutes of Health defines health disparities as “differences that exist among specific population groups in the United States in the attainment of full health potential that can be measured by differences in incidence, prevalence, mortality, burden of disease, and other adverse health conditions.
