History of Netball • 1817-1901 netball was called “ladies basketball” • Basketball was introduced to England in 1890, the men didn’t take to the sport but the women did. • In 1898 the court was divided into thirds, the number of players increased from five to nine and was played with a smaller ball. There were two umpires, two scorers and two timekeepers.

  3. My netball • I played 3 times a week at Darebin Community sports stadium. I play and coach for the Northern Blues Netball Club. (NBNC) • I play two games on a Wednesday night, under 17’s, and ladies open. • My third game is on a Saturday morning mixed comp under 17’s

  6. Positions. • Attacking: GS, GAMid court: C, WA, WD • Defending: GK, GD

  7. Wing attack and defense • Where can they go? • The wing defence can move in the defensive and centre third but is not allowed to enter the circle. This is the same for wing attack but in the attacking and centre third. • What do they do? • They defend the oppositions, Wing attack. • And there main role is to stop the opposition passing the ball into the circle. The role of the wing attack is to feed the ball to the shooters.

  8. Goal attack and shooter • Where can they go? • Goal attack are allowed to move in the centre and attacking third including the circle. This is the same as the shooter but the goal shooter cannot move from the centre third. • What do they do? • The goal shooter and attacks roles are to feed the ball into the ring and shoot goals for the team.

  9. center • Where can they go? • Centres are allowed to move in all 3 thirds except in both circles. • What do they do? • They restart the game each time after a goal. • They mark the opposition's Centre. • They need to be very agile and fit and they help in both attack and defence

  10. Goal keeper and defense • Where can they go? • The goal defence can move any where in the circle defensive and centre third. This is the same as the goal desfense but the keeper cannot enter the centre third • What do they do? • They defend against the oppositions Goal attack. • They are trying to stop the other team from scoring and get the ball out of defence to the attacking third
