Purpose: To give students exposure to the different career opportunities relating to the marine trades that can be found in our coastal community. # of students = 20 • Main Areas of Focus: • Marina Operation- Garden State Marina • Bait and Tackle Shop Operation- Alex’s Bait and Tackle • US Coast Guard • Commercial Sport fishing- Norma K • Commercial Fishing- Lobster Boat Pt. Pleasant Co-Op • Secondary Areas of Focus: • Marketing and Advertising • Public Relations • Writing Skills/Publishing • Computer Technology • Environmental Impacts Two days 1st day in the field 2cd day follow-up activities at school

Expectations: At each location students will be given an opportunity to see: -the daily operation in progress -understand about licensing and state requirements -educational requirements -salary guidelines and growth potential -environmental impacts -industry related cooperation and networking involved -impact on surrounding community -questions and answers

  4. Follow-up Activities • Goals/Outcomes: • Create a PowerPoint Presentation that captures the Marine • Trades in our area. This presentation will become part of the • resources available to teachers to use in a Career Awareness • Curriculum. (5 students) • 2) Produce newspaper publications to be sent to the Asbury Park • Press, Coast Star, and MHS Newspaper. ( 3 students) • 3) Create a collage displaying the career opportunities that • can be displayed in the school hallway in the new addition. • ( 4 students) • 4) Design a web page of the day that can be added to our school’s • web site. ( 2 students)
